  • Cost-efficient allocation of ship measures and harvest of aquatic invasive species – An application to invasive crabs on the west coast of Sweden

  • Evaluation of cost efficiency in hydropower-related biodiversity restoration projects in Sweden – a stochastic frontier approach

Open Access•Wondmagegn Tafesse Tirkaso, Ing-Marie Gren et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Environmental Planning…•2023

Various restoration projects intended to mitigate the adverse ecological effects of hydropower plants, e.g. by restoration of fish habitats and spawning grounds, have been implemented in different parts of the world. However, it is unclear whether these projects are in line with least-cost principles. In this study, we estimated the cost efficiency level for different biodiversity mitigation measures in Sweden by using stochastic frontier analysi…

  • A trading market for uncertain carbon removal by land use in the EU

    Open Access•Ing-Marie Gren, Ing‐Marie Gren•ARTICLE•Forest Policy and Economics•2023•References: 1

This paper designs a trading market for uncertain carbon removal from uptake and reduced leakage by restoration of drained peatland, forest management and afforestation in the EU countries. A cost-efficient design of the quantification of carbon removals takes uncertainty into account by introducing a risk premium that differs between countries and measures. Given the cost-efficient design with risk premiums, the marginal and total costs of achie…

  • Refunding of a climate tax on food consumption in Sweden

    Open Access•Ing-Marie Gren, Ing‐Marie Gren et al.•ARTICLE•Food Policy•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 3

This paper examines the implications of imposing a climate tax on food consumption in Sweden combined with refunding of the tax revenues to farmers for selected agricultural activities enhancing ecosystem services: restoration of drained peatland (carbon sequestration), maintenance of grassland (biodiversity), and construction of wetlands (nutrient regulation). A partial equilibrium model of the agricultural sector is used to assess economic and …

  • Stacking of abatement credits for cost-effective achievement of climate and water targets

    Open Access•Ing-Marie Gren, Ing‐Marie Gren et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2019•Cited by: 1

In a stacking system abatement measures with simultaneous effects on climate and water targets, such as wetland construction and cultivation of energy crops, are credited for the abatement of multiple pollutants. In this study we calculated and compared the abatement costs of achieving multiple environmental targets with and without stacking under different policy regimes (emissions trading, charge, standards). To this end, a static mixed integer…

  • Hunters' trade-off in valuation of different game animals in Sweden

  • Policy design for forest carbon sequestration: A review of the literature

Open Access•Ing-Marie Gren, Ing‐Marie Gren et al.•ARTICLE•Forest Policy and Economics•2016

Forest carbon enhancement provides a low-cost opportunity in climate policy, but needs efficient policy design to be implemented. This paper reviews studies in economics on efficient design of policies for forest carbon sequestration and compares their findings against design systems in practice. Specific design problems are associated with the heterogeneity of landowners, uncertainty, additionality, and permanence in carbon projects. Different t…

  • Costs of Alien Invasive Species in Sweden

    Ing-Marie Gren, Ing‐Marie Gren et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2009•Cited by: 2

The purpose of this paper is to present calculations of total costs of 13 alien invasive species (AIS) in Sweden. All species are subject to control by Swedish public authorities, and estimates for most AIS include either damage cost or actual control cost. The results indicate a total annual cost between approximately 1620 and 5080 million SEK, which correspond to SEK 175 and SEK 565 per capita in Sweden. The estimates are well within the range …

  • Giving Advice on Cost Effective Measures for a Cleaner Baltic Sea: A Challenge for Science

Fredrik Wulff, Erik Bonsdorff et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2001•Cited by: 4

The Baltic Sea is one of the world's seas that is most severely affected by human activities. Although there is an international agreement that nutrient input to the Baltic should be reduced, the measures taken so far have not resulted in major reductions in nutrient inputs nor in environmental improvements. The reasons for this are partly due to lack of knowledge on large-scale relationships and couplings between physics, biogeochemistry and eco…
