    Open Access•Emanuela Fabbricotti•ARTICLE•Libyan Studies•2001•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Thomas Ashby was a very well-known British archaeologist of the beginning of last century. He travelled a lot and left to the British School at Rome, of which he was the first student, many albums of photographs. Some of them have been recently published. This article deals with the trip to Libya by sea made in May 1910. He took photographs of Derna, Benghazi and Tripoli with general views of them. Of course, the panorama is now changed, but it i…

  • Statuette in Calcare da Bu Senab

    Open Access•Emanuela Fabbricotti•ARTICLE•Libyan Studies•1994•References: 2

Riproducono i pezzi com…

  • Un aureo di Galba in Abruzzo

    Open Access•Emanuela Fabbricotti•ARTICLE•Papers of the British School at…•1994•References: 1

AN AUREUS OF GALBA IN ABRUZZO A find of an aureus of Galba from the mint of Tarragona has stimulated the author to pose again several questions concerning the Emperor's history and the iconography of his coins. This leads to consideration of the Emperor's personality and his probable participation in the stoic movement of Thrasea-Paetus , which was curtailed by Nero. If this participation is confirmed, it should be possible to understand better G…

  • Silphium in Ancient Art

    Open Access•Emanuela Fabbricotti•ARTICLE•Libyan Studies•1993•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Silphium is the source of Cyrene's wealth. It is possible that the first colonists who landed in Cyrenaica realized the many qualities of the plant and decided at once to take advantage of it. Maybe, the Minoans knew about it too, as Sir Arthur Evans found some inscribed tablets from Cnossos with symbols very like those represented on later Cyrenaican coins. Silphium is represented on coins possibly as the symbol of Cyrenaica and a branch of silp…

  • A Group of Inscriptions from Stabiae

Open Access•J M Reynolds, Jennifer Reynolds et al.•ARTICLE•Papers of the British School at…•1972

The group of inscriptions described below was found on the former estate of the Marchesi Pellicano, near the road from Stabiae to Nocera. These stones have hitherto remained in their garden along with others published by F. di Capua, but passed in 1969 into the keeping of the Antiquarium Statale di Castellamare di Stabia. Our main concern has been with the unpublished items, nos. 1–3 and 6–8, but we have added notes on four related texts, nos. 4,…
