Lesion Distribution in Childhood Scurvy Among Medieval Subadults From Giecz (Site 10), Poland
This study examines the anatomical distribution of cranial lesions associated with vitamin C deficiency in a sample of 70 subadult individuals (aged 0–11 years) from the medieval cemetery at Giecz, site 10, Poland. Lesion frequency and severity were assessed macroscopically across cranial regions identified as high risk due to their association with masticatory and suckling muscle activity and vascular vulnerability. The results indicate a struct…
Wild Resources in the Economy of Bronze and Early Iron Ages Between Oder and Bug Rivers – Source Overview
The archaeological discussion still appears to largely disregard the role of natural resources in the early agricultural economy of Central Europe. Cereal cultivation and animal husbandry strategies remain a central area of studies. Wild resources are the only proxy data helping to reconstruct the strategies mentioned above. The data for the assessment of the wild resource role in consumption strategies are scarce. Plant and animal remains preser…
Einmal ist keinmal. Peculiar burial practices of prehistoric communities settling the Lublin-Volhynia Upland in the Early Iron Age
The study addresses remains of two peculiar graves unearthed at the site Mikulin 9 in the Dobużek Scarp (Pol. Skarpa Dobużańska) area in Western Volhynia. Unique character of the burials under consideration consists in the peculiarity of funeral ritual performed, scenario of which was basically divided into two acts of burning of the deceased – once on cremation pyres, and then in the eventual places of their interment (grave pits). Both the grav…
