Electronic Health Literacy among Linguistically Diverse Patients in the Los Angeles County Safety Net Health System
In this sample of patients from a diverse safety net population, perceived skills and confidence in engaging with electronic health systems were low, particularly among LEP Spanish-speakers, despite moderate levels of electronic health literacy. More studies are needed among diverse patient populations to better assess eHealth literacy and patients' digital readiness, and to examine how these patient metrics directly impact telehealth utilization

Trends in Memory Problems and Race/Ethnicity in the National Health and Examination Survey, 1999-2014
The prevalence of subjective cognitive concerns across time periods points to a need to engage patients - particularly older and less-educated Latinos - about warning signs for cognitive impairment. The impact of education on subjective cognitive concerns in older Latinos may be related to acculturation and warrant further investigation
Applying Community Engagement to Disaster Planning
Community resilience (CR) is a priority for preparedness, but few models exist. A steering council used community-partnered participatory research to support workgroups in developing CR action plans and hosted forums for input to design a pilot demonstration of implementing CR versus enhanced individual preparedness toolkits. Qualitative data describe how stakeholders viewed CR, how toolkits were developed, and demonstration design evolution. Sta…
Racial/Ethnic Variations in Veterans’ Ambulatory Care Use
Objectives. We assessed racial/ethnic variations in patterns of ambulatory care use among Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care–eligible veterans to determine if racial/ethnic differences in health care use persist in equal-access systems. Methods. We surveyed 3227 male veterans about their health and ambulatory care use. Results. Thirty-eight percent of respondents had not had a health care visit in the previous 12 months. Black (odds …
