Development of Texas’s First Chinese American Community Health Worker Certification for Family Health History-Based Cancer Prevention
To address leading health organizations’ calls for public health professionals to adopt family health history (FHH) into their practice, we developed the first community health worker Texas state-certification program focusing on FHH-based cancer prevention for Chinese Americans, for whom cancer is the leading cause of death. The 160-hour program trained 46 Chinese American CHWs to provide FHH-based cancer prevention services for 1129 Chinese Ame…
Model-Selection-Based Approaches to Identifying the Optimal Number of Factors in Multilevel Exploratory Factor Analysis
This study examined the accuracy of commonly used model fit indexes in identifying number of factors in multilevel exploratory factor analysis using Monte Carlo simulations. Multilevel data were generated according to different scenarios of factor structures: cluster numbers, cluster sizes, and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) conditions. The results showed that when using the model-based approach, most of the commonly used fit indexes co…
Family Health History and Mate Selection
A Survey of Texas Health Educators' Family Health History-based Practice
Training health educators to incorporate FHH into their practice is needed. Our theoretical model suggests intervention points for future training
Perceived Causes of Autism Spectrum Disorders among Taiwanese Parents of Affected Children
US Health Educators’ Likelihood of Adopting Genomic Competencies Into Health Promotion
Objectives. We examined US health educators’ likelihood of adopting genomic competencies—specific skills and knowledge in public health genomics—into health promotion and the factors influencing such likelihood. Methods. We developed and tested a model to assess likelihood to adopt genomic competencies. Data from 1607 health educators nationwide were collected through a Web-based survey. The model was tested through structural equation modeling. …
