Aids and behavioral change to reduce risk: A review

These studies demonstrate rapid, profound, but expectably incomplete alterations in the behavior of both homosexual/bisexual males and intravenous drug users. Evaluation of a minimal-contact smoking cessation intervention in an outpatient setting
We examined the ability of a provider-initiated, minimal-contact intervention to modify the smoking behavior of ambulatory clinic patients. Smokers at two outpatient sites were assigned to one of three groups: provider intervention only (PI); provider intervention plus self-help manual (PI/M); and usual care (control) group (C). The physician message emphasized the patient's personal susceptibility, the physician's concern, and the patient's abil…
The influence of client-provider relationships on teenage women's subsequent use of contraception

The subjects for the study are the clients and professional staff of 78 clinics: 2,900 eligible clients making their first contraceptive visit and 338 clinic staff nurses. Results of interviews demonstrate that client and staff e…
Physician behavior as a determinant of utilization patterns: The case of abortion

The population for this study includes all obstetrician-gynecologists with any private practice in Maryland during 1975 (473). Each responding physician (443) was presented with a case histo…
