Inequities in Excess Pandemic Mortality Among Documented and Undocumented Immigrants in California, 2020–2023
Objectives. To examine how excess mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic differed by legal status and its intersections with sociodemographic factors, overall and among working-age Latinos. Methods. Using death records from Californian adults (aged ≥ 25 years) with a natural cause of death, we estimated excess mortality between March 2020 and May 2023, using ARIMA (autoregressive integrated moving average) models fit to prepandemic data spanning …
Child Maltreatment and Inflammatory Response to Mental Stress Among Adults Who Have Survived a Myocardial Infarction
OBJECTIVE: Experiences of child maltreatment are associated with cardiovascular risk and disease in adulthood; however, the mechanisms underlying these associations are poorly understood. METHODS: We examined associations between retrospectively self-reported exposure to child maltreatment (Early Trauma Inventory Self-Report Short Form) and inflammatory responses to mental stress among adults (mean age = 50 years) who recently had a myocardial in…

Antibiotic Susceptibility of Bacterial Pathogens That Infect Olive Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) Cultivated in Korea
Paralichthys olivaceus (olive flounder) is widely cultivated in Korea. However, data on the antibiotic susceptibility of bacterial pathogens that infect olive flounders in Korea are limited. The susceptibility of 84 strains of 3 pathogenic bacteria ( Streptococcus spp., Vibrio spp., and Edwardsiella piscicida ) to 18 antibiotics was tested using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) panels, and the distribution of the MIC values for each spe…
Examining Women’s Dental Disorders through Multi-Level Sex and Gender Analysis
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves drugs for sale in the United States based on its determination that the clinical benefits of a drug outweigh its potential health risks. To make this decision, FDA reviews supporting data collected from several thousand patients during the drug's development.Once a drug is approved for marketing and used by potentially hundreds of thousands of patients, however, the type, rate, and severity of advers…
Intergenerational effects of maternal PTSD
Maternal PTSD may be associated with negative child behavior outcomes, and this relation appears to be mediated by increased parenting stress. Stress-reducing interventions for parents with PTSD could improve child outcomes, especially for girls. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
Trauma exposure, PTSD, and parenting in a community sample of low-income, predominantly African American mothers and children
Trauma and PTSD in parents may impact parental distress and child abuse potential, potentially increasing children's risk for not only the experience of child abuse, but also PTSD. Child and family interventions should consider child and parental trauma and PTSD as important factors to address. (PsycINFO Database Record
