Tax credit for support of university-community partnerships in low-income urban school districts
Tying public school funding to property taxes has prevented low-income school districts in the United States from garnering adequate financial and social resources. As a result of this regressive funding system, millions of children find themselves trapped in underfunded schools and neighborhoods that perpetuate intergenerational trauma, tenuous employment, poor health, and poverty. However, in many underserved neighborhoods, including in cities …
Persistence of stigma and the cessation of substance use
While self-stigmatization (i.e., internalized stigma) was lower among those who report no longer using, our patterns suggest a persistence of stigma regardless of cessation of substances associated with SUD, particularly among stigma domains that are based on perceptions of how others may still perceive individuals who have used substances. Though more research is needed, results suggest that public health programmatic, policy, and campaign effor…

This study outlines one session of an 8-week elective course for trainees to engage with topics in women's health through global cinema. Quantitative and …
Immigrant Networks and Their Implications for Occupational Choice and Wages
Occupational shares of various ethnic groups have grew tremendously in regional U.S. labor markets from 1980 to 2000. Using U.S. Census data, we examine the extent to which this growth is attributed to network effects by studying the relationship between the occupational choice of recently arrived immigrants with those of established immigrants from the same country, We find strong evidence of network effects. First, new arrivals are choosing the…
