  • A mobile addiction service for community-based overdose prevention

    Open Access•Michael D Pepin, Jillian K Joseph et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Mainstays of opioid overdose prevention include medications for opioid use disorder (e.g., methadone or buprenorphine) and naloxone distribution. • Why Should Primary Care Clinicians Learn to Routinely Examine the Mouth

    Open Access•Jesse Feierabend-Peters, Hugh Silk•ARTICLE•The AMA Journal of Ethic•2022

Most medical schools and primary care residency programs do not teach proper oral examination skills. Despite the existence of proven national oral health curricula for medical professionals, many medical trainees and graduates are ill-equipped to identify oral cancers, make proper referrals, avoid unnecessary referrals, or help patients focus on oral disease prevention. This commentary on a case suggests the importance of educating clinicians to…

  • Medical Education and Geriatric Oral Health

    Hugh Silk•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2012•References: 1

I want to commend Griffin et al. for their outstanding article on geriatric oral health.1 As they pointed out, oral disease in this population is a major health issue with important consequences. Strategies for improving outcomes must be multifactorial. I was struck by the importance of their statement suggesting that part of the solution is for “primary care providers and geriatricians [to] be educated on common oral conditions, risk factors, an…
