  • P2-356 Independent predictors of metabolic syndrome in HIV-infected patients

    P R D Alencastro, S C Fuchs et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Introduction Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is associated with development of type 2 diabetes mellitus and increased risk for cardiovascular disease. However, a few studies have assessed its prevalence and risk factors among HIV patients from developing countries. Objective To identify independent risk factors for metabolic syndrome by the criteria of the American Heart Association/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (AHA/NHLBI) among men and wo…

  • SP2-9 Diagnostic criteria of lipodystrophy in HIV-infected patients

Paulo Ricardo de Alencastro, Sandra Cristina Pereira Costa Fuch et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Introduction The prevalence of lipodystrophy ranges from 2 to 84% and the range of findings stems from differences between the populations studied and lack of standardised diagnostic criteria. The diagnosis of lipodystrophy is based on changes in body fat distribution with or without medical confirmation, objective measures of circumferences and skin folds or quantification of adiposity by dual emission x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) CT scan or MRI.…
