Deep learning-based human suspicious activity detection system for defence surveillance
Threats are metamorphosing simultaneously at an alarming speed, demanding instantaneous responsiveness in defence-related surveillance applications. Conventionally, these systems involve monitoring by using rule-based and manual detection, which implies delays in detection and incorrectness at the highest rate of false positives. To mitigate such inconveniences, the present framework is intelligent enough to recognize suspicious human activities …
Development and validation of a simple and practical method for differentiating MS from other neuroinflammatory disorders based on lesion distribution on brain MRI
There is an unmet need to develop practical methods for differentiating multiple sclerosis (MS) from other neuroinflammatory disorders using standard brain MRI. To develop a practical approach for differentiating MS from neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) and MOG antibody-associated disorder (MOGAD) with brain MRI, we first identified lesion locations in the brain that are suggestive of MS-associated demyelination ("MS Lesion Checklis…
Dietary intake and the insulin-like growth factor system: Effects of migration in two related populations in India and Britain with markedly different dietary intake
Background The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system is implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Objective We report the effects of total energy intake on the IGF system in two populations with markedly different dietary macronutrient intake and cardiovascular event rate. Design, subjects and setting Dietary macronutrient intake was measured in a specific Gujarati migrant community in Sandwell, UK ( n = 205) compar…
A rural outbreak of Legionnaires' disease linked to visiting a retail store
Between May 7 and June 7, 1986, 27 residents of a rural county in Maryland developed legionellosis, and two died. Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 was cultured from the sputum of two patients and identified in lung tissue of a third patient by direct fluorescent antibody staining. An additional 11 patients had four-fold rises in antibody titer to L. pneumophila, and 13 had single titers greater than or equal to 1:256. To determine risk factors …
