Wais—R Performance in Dementia with and without Depression
A lower mean WAIS-R Performance IQ and lower mean scores on the Arithmetic and Picture Arrangement subtests for dementia patients with affective disorder (n = 22) versus dementia patients without affective disorder (n = 10) are presented. Implications of these findings and suggestions for further research are tendered
Relation of Cognitive Functioning to Daily Living Skills in a Geriatric Population
A modified version of the Community Competence Scale was administered along with the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale--Revised (WAIS--R) to 40 geriatric patients with suspected dementia. Scores on the Competence Scale, a measure of functional daily living skills, were correlated .72 with Full Scale IQs and .77 with Verbal IQs and moderately correlated (.55) with Performance IQs. A number of significant correlations were found between WAIS--R sub…
Relationship between the Wais-R and the WRAT in a Geriatric Sample with Suspected Dementia
Pearson product-moment correlations between the standard scores of the Wide Range Achievement Test (Spelling, Reading, and Arithmetic) and the WAIS-R Full Scale IQ, Verbal IQ, Performance IQ and the scaled scores of the individual subtests were calculated for a geriatric sample with suspected dementia ( M age = 72.37 yr.). The three areas of achievement, as measured by the Wide-Range Achievement Test, correlated highly with the WAIS-R IQs and sub…
The extent, nature, and utility of evaluating consumer satisfaction in community mental health centers
Evaluating consumer perceptions is a recent development in community mental health. The authors surveyed the 504 federally funded community mental health centers to discover the extent to which they assessed consumer satisfaction, the methods used to collect data, and the utility of the results. Of the 366 centers that responded, 48% had gathered consumer feedback in the previous 18 months, and most others planned to initiate such evaluations wit…
