  • Correcting for Endogeneity in Models with Bunching

Carolina Caetano, Gregorio Caetano et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2024

We develop a novel control function approach in models where the treatment variable has bunching at one corner of its support. This situation typically arises when the treatment variable is a constrained choice and some observations choose the corner solution. The method exploits distributional shape restrictions but makes no exclusion restrictions. We provide estimators and establish their asymptotic behavior, prove the convergence of the bootst…

  • Regression discontinuity design with multivalued treatments

Open Access•Carolina Caetano, Gregorio Caetano et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Econometrics•2023

We study identification and estimation in the regression discontinuity design with a multivalued treatment. We show that heterogeneity in the first stage discontinuities can be used for the identification of the marginal treatment effects under an alternative assumption, namely, the homogeneity of the LATEs along some covariates. This assumption can often be tested and relaxed. Our estimator can be programmed as a simple two‐stage least squares r…

  • Explaining Recent Trends in US School Segregation

Gregorio Caetano, Vikram Maheshri•ARTICLE•Journal of Labor Economics•2023

From 2002 to 2018, the fraction of minority-segregated public schools in the United States roughly doubled, but the fraction of White-segregated schools decreased at an even faster rate. Endogenous segregation fueled by parents choosing schools on the basis of their racial compositions can in principle dwarf all other determinants of segregation over time because of social multiplier effects. However, we find that demographic change from Hispanic…
