Boundary-crossing events in audio descriptions across English and Spanish
Boundary-crossing events have been analyzed from the perspective of the thinking-for-speaking hypothesis (Slobin, 1996) both in first and second language acquisition. Moreover, this framework has also been applied to translation, leading to the thinking-for-translating hypothesis. Audio description (AD) is a type of intersemiotic translation (Jakobson, 1959) that involves translation across sign systems. In this field of research, no studies have…

Personalidad y carga emotiva en la traducción de testimonios de cáncer de mama
Este artículo de investigación se centra en analizar el impacto o la influencia de la personalidad y la carga emotiva de testimonios sobre cáncer de mama en la precisión y la calidad de las traducciones. Para ello se diseñó un estudio experimental en el que un grupo de traductores tuvo que leer y traducir dos testimonios sobre cáncer de mama (uno con valencia positiva y el otro, negativa), además de cumplimentar una serie de pruebas psicométricas…

Whether manner is added or omitted in translated crime events, for instance, has been found to influence the audience’s judgments about the violence and their decisions on a possible punishment. However, the emotional impact on the audience has not been addressed yet. The present article reports …
Naming motion events in Spanish and English
This research asked whether speakers are influenced by systematic semantic patterns in their language in forming new word meanings. We used the novel word mapping technique (Nagy and Gentner 1990) to test whether English and Spanish speakers would show effects of their differing semantic systems in inferring the meanings of novel motion verbs. We also tested for any language-specific effects in inferring novel nouns. Participants were given short…
