In response to this constraint, this study posits that urban open spaces adjacent to schools can supplement and compensate for inadequate on-campus open spaces. Taking high-density Hong Kong as a case, this stu…

Parents’ digital Labor and disrupted parent-teacher relationships
The digital age has fundamentally altered the distribution of work and responsibilities in schools. Parents, as important stakeholders in schooling, are taking on more digital labour and facing changing roles. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, parents’ digital labour often remained overlooked as they were not able to observe or participate in the whole process of schooling in the school. However, home-based online learning during the pandemic lockdow…
Digitally intensive mothering and unequal emotional work of Chinese mothers
Due to the unequal gender division of labour in parenting practices, intensive mothering has been further reinforced in the digital age, amplifying mothers’ otherwise implicit emotional work. Using data from 70 self-narration cases of Chinese mothers during lockdown learning, this study found that mothers experienced four kinds of negative emotions – anxiety, anger, frustration and guilt during online learning, and adopted two possible coping str…
Parental digital involvement in online learning
In the digital age, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has enabled learning to happen everywhere, leading to a shift of schooling to the home field and strengthening parents' educational responsibilities.
