Humanizing artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) has quickly become the hallmark of modern workplaces, largely adopted to enhance efficiency in organizations. While most studies emphasize the potential of AI to enhance employees' technical performance, more recent research has drawn attention to its impact on employee well-being. This study focuses on the latter issue. Building on adaptive structuration theory, it adopts a technology appropriation perspective examin…
Managing the interdependencies between voluntary organizations and the NHS
Background. Providing healthcare services to vulnerable populations (VP) represents a priority, as they experience extreme health inequities1. However, VP are often hard to reach, especially for the National Healthcare Services (NHS). Therefore, in several countries, voluntary, community, and social enterprise organizations (VCSEOs) offer services to them, resulting in positive implications in terms of access, use of healthcare services, and ulti…

A multi-actor ICT platform for increasing sustainability and resilience of small-scale farmers after pandemic crisis
Purpose This paper proposes an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platform to increase the sustainability and resilience of smallholders to face supply chain disruptions in the event of COVID-like crises. The platform facilitates interactions between smallholders and buyers, workers and freight transport companies in agri-food ecosystems. Furthermore, this research work presents the implementation of the freight transport companies’ p…
Prevalence of Scoliosis in Children and Adolescents with Cystic Fibrosis
The prevalence of scoliosis in people with cystic fibrosis (CF) seems to be greater than in the normal population. Over the last two years, a screening for spinal deformities was carried out in patients with CF aged 5 to 18 years, followed up at the CF regional Centre in Parma (Italy). Forty-three patients (twenty-seven males, mean age: 11.8 ± 4.5 years) were enrolled in the study. Nine patients (20.9%) were diagnosed with scoliosis, with a mean …
Governing Integrated Health and Social Care
This study highlights that governance is relatively neglected as a focus of attention in this context but addressing governance challenges is key for successful collaboration

The impact of different types of NHS expenditure on health
English data from 2003 to 2012 suggests that it costs the NHS £10,000 to generate an additional quality-adjusted life year (QALY). This estimate relates to all NHS expenditure and no attempt was made to explore possible heterogeneity within this total. Different types of expenditure - such as secondary care, primary care and specialized commissioning - may have different productivities and estimates of these may help policymakers decide where add…

An overall rate of return on investment (ROI) statistically significant 13.0% per annum with an associated benefit/cost ratio (BCR) of 6.3 is expected as the primary outcome of the "WeCare Generation" program. Our proposed model predicts a new medical paradigm aiming to empower new generations, with a strong return on economy and health
Investigating the economic case of a service to support carers of people with dementia
Carers contribute essential support to enable people with dementia to continue living within the community. Admiral Nurses provide specialist dementia support for carers of people with dementia, including offering expert emotional support and guidance, and work to join up different parts of the health and social care system to address needs in a co-ordinated way. The cost-effectiveness of this service is not clear. We undertook a feasibility stud…
Home care for the elderly in Sweden, Germany and Italy
Home care is a policy field characterized by strong interdependencies and multi‐level governance. In such a setting, decision‐ and strategy‐making is complex, with interrelated governance mechanisms between the private and public actors involved, and the risk of lack of a clear and sharp definition of public contents. In this article we are interested in understanding “if and how” multi‐level governance influences planning in home care and, more …
Care to go”
Introduction:Health and social care policy makers in Italy are facing today the hard challenge to improve integration between different typologies of care.Current features of the two sectors foster the development of different settings of care with poor coordination at the organisational and service delivery level (following Kodner, 2002, definition). This produces high costs for families and users who become case managers they themselves, and hav…
