A Multidisciplinary Research Agenda for Artificial Intelligence, Education, Learning, and Instruction
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping education, learning, and instruction, yet current research in this area is fragmented, often tool-specific, and dominated by short-term perspectives. This article develops a broader research agenda for AI and Education (AI&ED), bringing together Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) and AI literacy within an educational ecology framing. Using a collective writing methodology, an expert panel of elev…
Learning in and for a changing work life
The conditions for learning and competence development in most professional fields and sectors of work life are rapidly changing due to factors such as digitalisation, globalisation, and robotisati
Regional wages in industry and labour market integration in Sweden, 1861–1913
This study examines the extent to which wages of industrial workers converged during the period of Sweden's industrial breakthrough, thereby relating to the international discussion on market integration. About 350 local wage series for nine regions in Sweden for the period 1861–1913 are used, deflated by regional cost-of-living indices. The main result is that there was a general wage convergence during the period of study. Wage differentials de…
Explaining Equalization: Political Institutions, Market Forces, and Reduction of the Gender Wage Gap in Sweden, 1920–95
This article describes and explains the movement of female relative wages in Sweden from 1920 to 1995. During this period the aggregate gender wage gap shrunk from 41 to 15%. The bulk of the change took place in two periods: 1920 to 1940 and 1960 to 1980. With regard to determining factors, the analysis distinguishes between the period before 1960, when the rise in the female relative wage was the result of employment shifts, and after 1960, when…
Discursive evaluation in a distributed learning community
This paper describes a distance education project where a threaded discussion board was used for interaction amongst students and teachers. The experiences from the first year of the project shows that such a forum can be an important complement to other evaluative resources in order to monitor student's expectations and experiences. Furthermore, it is argued that discursive evaluations can establish a learning community with shared norms and for…
Politics or market forces? The determinants of the relative wage movements of female industrial workers in Sweden, 1960–1990
From 1950 to 1990 the gender wage gap of blue collar workers in Swedish manufacturing shrank from 31 to 11 per cent. The Swedish discussion of this quite extraordinary development has traditionally focused on political factors within a simplistic model where the movement of relative wages is determined by policy changes. That view is challenged in this article which focuses on the impact of long-term shifts in the structure of labour supply and d…
