Impact of Early Weight Catch-Up on 6-Year Neurodevelopment and Overweight/Obesity in Children Born Small-for-Gestational-Age
Weight status at age 2 in children with SGA was significantly associated with neurodevelopmental and obesity risks at age 6. These findings highlight the need for early weight monitoring and interventions to optimize long-term health in children with SGA
Deaths from tuberculosis
Patients with high-risk TB must be identified through cause-specific mortality analysis, and the mortality rate must be reduced through intensive monitoring of patients with a high TB burden and comorbidities
Risk of loss to follow-up among tuberculosis patients in South Korea
Introduction: In South Korea, public-private mix (PPM) has been a key strategy in national tuberculosis (TB) control program. This study aimed to identify rate of loss to follow-up (LTFU) among TB patients in nationwide PPM institutions and their risk factors. Methods: A nationwide prospective observational study including drug susceptible TB patients diagnosed from the 1st day to the 10th day of every month between July 2018 and December 2020 in…
Characteristics of subclinical tuberculosis compared to active symptomatic tuberculosis using nationwide registry cohort in Korea
Objective The clinical manifestations of tuberculosis (TB) range from asymptomatic to disseminated depending on the microbiological and immunological status, making the diagnosis challenging. To improve our understanding of the disease progression mechanism, we aimed to identify the characteristics of subclinical TB and important predictors of symptom development. Methods From July 2018 to June 2019, we systemically collected data from the Nation…
Effects of underweight and overweight on mortality in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis
Background: Poor nutrition increases disease severity and mortality in patients with tuberculosis (TB). There are gaps in our understanding of the effects of being underweight or overweight on TB in relation to sex. Methods: We generated a nationwide TB registry database and assessed the effects of body mass index (BMI) on mortality in patients with pulmonary TB. The cause of death was further classified as TB-related or non-TB-related deaths. Fi…

Educational Expectation-Attainment Gaps and Mental Health over the Early Adult Life Course
We advance research on the association of educational expectation–attainment gaps with mental health by asking two questions that derive from the stress process and life course frameworks: (1) How does the association change over the early adult life course? and (2) To what extent is the association attributable to adult social roles and socioeconomic attainment? Using the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health, we find that cl…
Effects of Aroma Foot Massage on Sleep Quality and Constipation Relief among the Older Adults Living in Residential Nursing Facilities
This study focused on the effects of aroma foot massage on sleep quality and constipation relief among older adult residents in nursing facilities. This research used a non-equivalent control group and a quasi-experimental design. The participants included 40 older adults aged ≥70 years residing in two nursing facilities in Seoul City. The aroma foot massage nursing intervention consisted of a preparation stage using jojoba carrier (aroma recipe)…
Smoking Awareness and Intention to Quit Smoking in Smoking Female Workers
Although the smoking rate among women has been continuously increasing recently, it is very difficult to explore the actual situation because of negative social views. This study aimed to analyze the effects of smoking awareness and living environment on the intention to quit smoking among female smokers. After receiving approval from the Research Ethics Committee in September 2021, secondary data analysis was performed for this study. A total of…
Effects of Health Belief, Knowledge, and Attitude toward Covid-19 on Prevention Behavior in Health College Students
This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the practice of COVID-19 prevention behaviors among college students as future medical workers. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in September 2021. A total of 526 health college students were included in this study. A hierarchical regression analysis was performed to examine the effect on the practice of COVID-19 prevention behavior. As a result of the analysis, experiences of educat…
Daily Life Changes and Life Satisfaction among Korean School-Aged Children in the Covid-19 Pandemic
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has been disrupting the daily lives of people across the world, causing a major concern for psychological well-being in children. This study aimed to examine (1) how life satisfaction and its potential predictors have been affected by the pandemic among school-aged children in Korea, and (2) which factors would predict their life satisfaction during the pandemic. We surveyed 166 fourth-graders in the Seoul metropolita…
Virtual Experience of Perioperative Patients
Patient-centered care can be achieved in the nursing school curriculum through "patient experiences." Additionally, the feedback from research participants who have "become keenly aware of the need for patient experiences" shows that empathizing with the "patient experience" is an essential quality to acquire by prospective medical professionals before they are introduced to the nursing field. We suggest future studies that expand on nursing stud…
Development and Effectiveness of a Patient Safety Education Program for Inpatients
The patient safety education program developed using mobile tablet PCs could be an effective tool to enhance patient involvement in preventing events that may threaten the safety of patients. Further studies are recommended to develop a variety of educational interventions to increase patient safety knowledge and perceptions of patients and caregivers
