  • Aqueous Polygalae Radix extract (PRE) prolongs the lifespan of C. elegans and alleviates D-galactose-induced oxidative stress in the mouse liver and brain by modulating PPARγ/Mapk

Open Access•Jiaqi Zhang, Wenxue Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2025

PRE delays aging and resists oxidative stress in organisms; it may act by regulating the PPARγ/MAPK signaling pathway and the intestinal flora. The efficacy and mechanism of PRE against oxidative stress were elucidated using RNA-seq and 16S rDNA sequencing, providing a reference for antiaging and aging-related diseases.

  • Association of ambient temperature and influenza-like illness with acute appendicitis

Open Access•Onchee Yu, On Tai Ken Yu et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

While high temperature was associated with acute appendicitis admission, a negative association of influenza infection was showed. The mechanisms underlying the above associations should be investigated in future studies, with the aim of formulating preventive strategies against acute appendicitis that take environmental exposures into consideration

  • Tracking cement transportation carbon emissions in China

    Open Access•Rui Li, Yuchen Wei et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Impact Assessment…•2025•Cited by: 2•References: 47

  • Perceptions, willingness-to-pay, and associated socio-demographics of sugar-sweetened beverage taxation in an affluent Asian setting

Open Access•Jingxuan Wang, Yuchen Wei et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2025•References: 31

  • Outcomes and Hospital Service Use Among Patients With COPD in a Nurse- and Allied Health–Led Clinic

Open Access•Kailu Wang, Shi Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•JAMA Health Forum•2024

In this cohort study, the use of a nurse- and allied health-led clinic in primary care settings was associated with reduced risks of mortality and use of hospital services among patients with COPD. These findings emphasize the important role of health care workers other than physicians in disease management in the primary care setting. The NAHC-Respiratory model and service components can be used to help improve primary care programs to benefit m…

  • Air pollutants, seasonal influenza, and acute otitis media in children

Open Access•Conglu Li, Xiaoting Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Our findings suggested that policy on air pollution control and influenza vaccination for children need to be implemented, which might have significant implications for preventing AOM in children

  • Changes in all-cause and cause-specific excess mortality before and after the Omicron outbreak of Covid-19 in Hong Kong

Open Access•Ka Chun Chong, Paul Kay Sheung Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2023

Background: While coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) deaths were generally underestimated in many countries, Hong Kong may show a different trend of excess mortality due to stringent measures, especially for deaths related to respiratory diseases. Nevertheless, the Omicron outbreak in Hong Kong evolved into a territory-wide transmission, similar to other settings such as Singapore, South Korea, and recently, mainland China. We hypothesized that the exce…

  • Relationship between temperature variability and daily hospitalisations in Hong Kong over two decades

Open Access•Kehang Li, Yawen Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2023

Background: Studies have highlighted the impacts of temperature variability (TV) on mortality from respiratory diseases and cardiovascular diseases, with inconsistent results specifically in subtropical urban areas than temperate ones. We aimed to fully determine TV-associated health risks over a spectrum of diseases and various subgroups in a subtropical setting. Methods: Using inpatient data from all public hospitals in Hong Kong from 1999 to 2…

  • Predicting Student Performance Using Clickstream Data and Machine Learning

Open Access•Yutong Liu, Si Fan et al.•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2022

Student performance predictive analysis has played a vital role in education in recent years. It allows for the understanding students’ learning behaviours, the identification of at-risk students, and the development of insights into teaching and learning improvement. Recently, many researchers have used data collected from Learning Management Systems to predict student performance. This study investigates the potential of clickstream data for th…
