  • Beyond the target

Open Access•Aimee Riedel, Katie McIntyre et al.•ARTICLE•Behaviour and Information…•2026

Cyberbullying is a prevalent issue with severe consequences for targets. While growing scholarship has investigated the role bystanders can play in mitigating the negative effects of cyberbullying, researchers have given much less attention to the impact of cyberbullying on these altruistic individuals. This study represents one of the first comprehensive assessments of secondary vulnerability experienced by bystanders, which we conceptualise as …

  • Advertising in Freemium Services

Open Access•Aimee Riedel, Rory Mulcahy et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Advertising•2025

Freemium services such as music streaming, video sharing, and mobile games are often supported using advertisements, whereby consumer attention to these advertisements can be considered a proxy form of payment for using the service. The current research develops and empirically tests a conceptual model underpinned by cognitive appraisal theory, examining the influence of control features within freemium services, such as offering consumers choice…

  • Dealing with intrusive ads

Open Access•Aimee Riedel, Clinton S Weeks et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

This work examines how intrusive advertising negatively impacts brand outcomes, and how this negativity is mitigated by mechanisms that support consumers feeling a greater sense of control. We contend that intrusive advertising leads to psychological reactance and consequently a loss of sense of agency, which results in negative brand outcomes. We examine how this is differentially mitigated by giving agency to consumers through skip, countdown, …

Independent commute, choice, and control can be enhanced with appropriate aids, technology, and infrastructure. Self-determination can also be seen to enhance mobility through the realisation of strengths an…

  • Culinary destination consumer-based brand equity

Guljira Manimont, Sarah Pike et al.•ARTICLE•Tourism Recreation Research•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 86

The present paper investigates the impact of FoodPorn, or food photographs, on user-generated content (UGC) and its role in influencing the perceptions of ‘food trippers’ toward local culinary precincts in a metropolitan area in Australia. Adopting a mix-methods approach, 20 semi-structured interviews with food trippers revealed four antecedents of why they gaze upon FoodPorn on UGC, including usefulness, ease of use, affective gratifications and…

  • Interpretative accounts of work capacity assessment policy for young adults with disabilities

    Open Access•Lisa Stafford, Greg Marston et al.•ARTICLE•Disability & Society•2019•Cited by: 3•References: 4

Young adults with disabilities are a specific target of the welfare-to-work policy introduced by many OECD countries over the past decade. The implementation of these policies is a significant concern for service delivery organisations and advocates in Australia and internationally due to complex intersecting structural barriers that persist for many young adults with disabilities. A particular focus of this article is work capacity assessments. …
