  • Applying P-Technique Factor Analysis to Explore Person-Specific Models of Readiness-to-Exercise

Open Access•Kelley Strohacker, Richard Keegan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2021•References: 2

Recent research in exercise prescription and periodization has emphasized the importance of subjective experience, both in medium- and long-term monitoring, but also in the acute experience. Emerging evidence also highlights an important role of subjective readiness (pre-exercise mental and physical states) in determining how exercise is experienced, and in acutely modifying the prescribed exercise intensity. The concept of “readiness-to-exercise…

  • Promotion of leisure-time physical activity by craft breweries in Knoxville, Tennessee

    Kelley Strohacker, Eugene C Fitzhugh et al.•ARTICLE•Leisure Studies•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 50

There exists literature written on connections between alcohol consumption and physical activity, but no research has been conducted to assess co-occurrence of these as paired behaviours. However, a growing collection of popular articles point towards a particularly unique relationship between craft beer and leisure-time physical activity (LTPA). To empirically describe this phenomenon, the research objective was to profile craft breweries in Kno…

  • Variability in Intensity Related to Increased Overall Bout Intensity

Brittany S Overstreet, Kelley Strohacker•ARTICLE•American Journal of Health Behavior•2018

In-task variability in exercise intensity was posi- tively related to the average intensity of the bout. Future studies should explore the utility of explicitly encouraging individuals to incorporate intra-bout variety for increasing the exercise dose while maintaining a degree of autonomy

  • Impact of Small Monetary Incentives on Exercise in University Students

Kelley Strohacker, Omar Galárraga et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Health Behavior•2015

This pilot study demonstrates initial feasibility in implementing small financial incentives to promote exercise behavior in previously inactive young adults. Due to the small sample size, results should be interpreted with caution and further research is warranted to improve and maintain exercise behavior in response to relatively smaller incentives

  • A one‐year school‐based diet/exercise intervention improves non‐traditional disease biomarkers in Mexican‐American children

Open Access•Brian K McFarlin, Craig James Johnston et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Nutrition•2012

School-based interventions are an effective way to treat childhood obesity. The purpose of the present study was to biologically validate an established school-based intervention designed to reduce standardised body mass index (zBMI) over a period of 12 months. This intervention focused on a subset of Mexican-American children who were participating in a larger clinical weight loss study. Plasma samples were analysed from self-identified Mexican-…
