Riding with strangers: Profiling potential users and refusers of shared autonomous vehicles in Swedish cities
In exploring the societal readiness for shared autonomous vehicles (SAVs) in Swedish cities, this study profiles two distinct user groups—potential users and refusers—based on their willingness to share rides with strangers. By analyzing responses from a significant sample in Stockholm and Gothenburg, the study reveals key traits of these groups: potential users tend to be progressive, environmentally conscious men with public transport habits an…
Who saves energy and why? Analysing diverse behaviours in 27 European countries
This paper investigates the decision to undertake a range of energy saving actions using individual survey data. Responses to eleven different energy saving actions are examined. These actions are also grouped together under broader curtailment, efficiency and transport categories for additional insights. The final sample comprises over 20,000 responses from a Eurobarometer survey dataset across 27 European countries. Quantitative multivariate mo…
Household energy resilience: Shifting perspectives to reveal opportunities for renewable energy futures in affluent contexts
Energy resilience is an important focus for energy policy and research, since the energy system is increasingly facing challenges such as power shortages, e.g. due to increased renewable energy production, and risks of power outages caused by extreme weathers. Typically, energy resilience in these contexts focuses on infrastructure and securing supply of electricity despite disturbances. This paper contributes a complementary perspective on resil…
Finding that elusive bell and other issues - experiences from starting to cycle during a pandemic
The Covid19 pandemic has pushed a large number of people to change their mode of transport from (mainly) public transport to cycling, and thus given us an opportunity to study the adoption process of cycling. The paper reports on an interview study with 12 participants who started, or significantly increased, cycling during the pandemic, and utilises the Innovation-Decision Process to analyse the participants' cycling adoption and draw implicatio…
Inviting travelers to the smorgasbord of sustainable urban transport: Evidence from a MaaS field trial
A Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) concept, UbiGo, was implemented in Gothenburg, Sweden, and used for a 6-month period by 195 individuals in 83 households. Four participant subgroups were identified: Car shedders, Car accessors, Simplifiers, and Economizers. A qualitative analysis revealed that the subgroups had different reasons to join the service and different expectations of the change that would occur on the basis of the altered preconditions o…
