What makes a lonely child: Environmental, health, and multimodal neuroimaging correlates of prospective loneliness in the ABCD study
BACKGROUND: Loneliness in childhood is a growing public health concern, yet early multilevel candidate risk and protective factors remain insufficiently mapped. Systematic investigation is essential to guide prevention and intervention during sensitive developmental periods. This study identifies environmental, health, and neurobiological factors associated with prospective loneliness in children. METHODS: A population-based longitudinal cohort s…
Mindfulness-based family psychoeducation intervention for caregivers of young adults with first-episode psychosis: Results at 9-month follow-up
ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT03688009
Impact of restrictive Covid-19 measures on daily momentary affect in an epidemiological youth sample in Hong Kong: An experience sampling study
The effect of implementation intentions on event-, time-, and activity-based prospective memory in typically developing children
Prospective memory (PM) refers to the ability to remember and complete planned tasks in the future, which relies on working memory (WM) for encoding and maintaining the intention. Implementation intention is a useful strategy for improving PM function in adults. Yet the effect of implementation intentions in children, and whether factors such as age, gender, and WM capacity could modulate its effect remains unclear. In this study, we examined the…
Effort-based decision making in schizotypy and its relationship with amotivation and psychosocial functioning
Our findings indicate subtle effort-allocation abnormalities in schizotypy individuals with high levels of diminished motivation, and suggest the link between laboratory-based effort-cost measures and real-world functional outcome
A randomized controlled trial of social cognition and interaction training for persons with first episode psychosis in Hong Kong
Social cognitive impairment is a core limiting factor of functional recovery among persons with first episode psychosis (FEP). Social Cognition and Interaction Training (SCIT) is a group-based, manualized training with demonstrated evidence in improving social cognitive performance among people with schizophrenia. However, there are few studies on the effect of SCIT for people with FEP and for people in non-Western societies. This study evaluated…
Cognitive subgroups and the relationships with symptoms, psychosocial functioning and quality of life in first-episode non-affective psychosis: A cluster-analysis approach
Our results affirmed cognitive heterogeneity in FEP and identified three subgroups, which were differentially associated with demographic and illness-related variables. Further research should clarify longitudinal relationships of cognitive subgroups with clinical and functional outcomes in FEP
Rate and correlates of self-stigma in adult patients with early psychosis
More than one-fourth of early psychosis patients experienced significant self-stigma, highlighting an unmet need for early detection and intervention of self-stigma in the initial years of illness. Further investigation is warranted to clarify trajectories and predictors of self-stigma in the early illness course
The Effects of a Mindfulness-Based Family Psychoeducation Intervention for the Caregivers of Young Adults with First-Episode Psychosis: A Randomized Controlled Trial
A brief psychoeducation program may not reduce the burden on or improve the mental-health outcome of caregivers of individuals with recent-onset psychosis. However, integrating mindfulness into a conventional family psychoeducation program may reduce the expressed emotions of caregivers, especially over-involvement. Further studies should explore how psychoeducation programs can reduce the impact of psychosis on family through sustainable effects…
Validity and normative data of the Chinese Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ) across adolescence, adults and elderly people
The Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ) is a widely-used questionnaire for evaluating individuals' memory failures in everyday life. However, whether the scale is valid for different age groups and gender, and how memory complaints change with age and gender remains less clear. This study aimed to validate the self-report PRMQ in a large Chinese sample across adolescence and adulthood and investigate age-related changes and …
The Interplay Between Addictive Behaviour and Psychopathology and Personality in Substance Use Disorder: A Network Analysis in Treatment-Seeking Patients with Alcohol and Drug Use
Altered Risk-Taking Behavior in Early-Stage Bipolar Disorder With a History of Psychosis
Altered risk-taking propensity is an important determinant of functional impairment in bipolar disorder. However, prior studies primarily assessed patients with chronic illness, and risk-taking has not been evaluated in the early illness course. This study investigated risk-taking behavior in 39 euthymic early-stage bipolar disorder patients aged 16-40 years who were treated within 3 years from their first-episode mania with psychotic features an…
Devaluation of Rewards for the Future Is Associated With Schizotypal Personality Features
ObjectiveEmpirical evidence has suggested that schizophrenia is associated with dysfunctions in the reward system and working memory. However, little is known about individuals at risk for schizophrenia. In particular, it is not known if those with schizotypal personality features will show similar deficits in these two domains. This study examined whether individuals with schizotypal personality disorder features will subjectively devalue potent…
