Defining Common Elements of Quality Work-Integrated Learning with a Literature Review
Work-integrated learning (WIL) is a prominent pedagogical approach in higher education (HE) that is a focal point for many universities around the world. Given that WIL is a strategic priority for many institutions there is an increased need to evaluate program quality. Yet at the same time, a universally agreed upon standard for quality WIL programs eludes practitioners and researchers. Design/Approach/Methods: This systematic literature review …
National Radon Action Plans in Europe and Need of Effectiveness Indicators
Protection of the population and of workers from exposure to radon is a unique challenge in radiation protection. Many coordinated actions and a variety of expertise are needed. Initially, a National Radon Action Plan (NRAP) has been developed and implemented by some countries, while it is currently recommended by international organizations (e.g., World Health Organization) and required by international regulations, such as the European Council …
Hotel Pro Forma's The Algebra of Place ; destabilising the original and the copy in intermedial contemporary performance
This paper examines two questions that emerged from a viewing of Hotel Pro Forma's contemporary peiformance The Algebra of Place. It questions how and why the viewer's perception altered when observing the convergence oflive and mediatised peiformance, with particular reference to an altered perception oforiginal and copy. It also questions the perception ofspace, time and the performer's identity in the performance. In an endeavour to address th…
Assessing Coral Reef Condition
Photographs depicting a gradient of coral reef condition associated with anchor damage were assessed and described by 76 research participants. The participants were divided into two groups: those with and those without occupational experience of coral reefs. Three important meanings ascribed to coral reefs were elicited. The most important meaning was “evaluation,” whether the scenes were perceived positively or negatively. The second meaning wa…
Re‐presenting the great barrier reef to tourists
This study sought to determine whether reef visitors’ ideal images of the Great Barrier Reef were used in the development of visitor expectancies of the reef experience and evaluative judgments of coral reef quality. Using 20 photographs of coral reef environments, a sample of 103 reef tourists judged how similar each photograph was to their ideal, their expectations, the reef they had visited, and a healthy coral reef. It was found that as the m…
Perceptions of equity and procedural preferences for water allocation decisions
The concepts of equity and procedural justice have greater significance as competition for water resources increases. In this study procedural preferences and attitudes towards equity in groundwater allocation were measured for residents of Perth, Western Australia. The most preferred procedure was arbitration. Moot and market‐driven allocation procedures were the least popular. Preferences for specific procedures were not modified by the degree …
The perception of animals amongst animal liberationists and hunters
To investigate animal liberationists' and hunters' perceptions of animals a repertory grid methodology and multidimensional scaling analysis were used to identify the dimensions of meaning used by 34 individuals from these two groups in their construal of 12 animal categories, selected so as to be representative of the animal kingdom. Five dimensions of meaning were identified, although their relative salience was found to differ between the two …
Computer menu design
The present study investigated the interrelationship between specific user characteristics and hierarchical menu structures. Four menu structures were used, which varied in breadth from 2 to 64 and depth from one to six (26, 43, 82, 641) Previous research, investigating both speed and accuracy across different menu structures, has shown that deep menus tend to have slow search times and the greatest number of errors (Miller, 1981; Snowberry, Park…
