Open Access•Thomas J Nehmy, John Daniels et al.•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•2026

Induced After-Death Communication (IADC) therapy, which uses bilateral stimulation derived from EMDR, is an emerging approach to reducing grief symptoms in bereaved individuals. Large reductions in grief symptoms were observed from baseline to fo…

  • Agencement and Agency

    Open Access•John Daniels•ARTICLE•Modern Theology•2020

The concept of the assemblage set out in Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari's A Thousand Plateaus is brought into dialogue with the notion of ethical agency found in the writings of Stanley Hauerwas. The discussion is structured around the process of the agent's narrative formation. Elements of complexity theory, in particular emergence, are adduced in order to explicate the points of difference between Deleuze and Guattari and Hauerwas, as are th…

  • Contribution of focus group discussions to Aboriginal Australian health service research

Open Access•Angela Dawson, John Daniels et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Critical…•2014•References: 10

Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) are a common way of gathering qualitative data in Aboriginal health services research; however there have been no studies on the question of whether they are appropriate research tools in such contexts, nor are there are specific guidelines available to ensure that FGDs are delivered to collect data in ways that are consistent with Aboriginal approaches to consultation, ownership and ways of knowing. Furthermore, th…

  • Not the Whole Story

    Open Access•John L Daniels, John Daniels•ARTICLE•New Blackfriars•2001•References: 1

It is the province of knowledge to narrate and the privilege of wisdom to listen. With apologies to Oliver Wendell Holmes It is already ten years since John Milbank published Theology and Social Theory: Beyond Secular Reason. Its impact was immediately apparent, the journals Modern Theology and New Blackfriars dedicating entire numbers to discussing some of the many issues arising from it. For it is unquestionably a daunting achievement: a relati…

  • How new is neo-phenomenology? A comparison of the methodologies of Gerardus van der Leeuw and Jacques Waardenburg

John L Daniels, John Daniels•ARTICLE•Method & Theory in the Study of…•1995

In this article, an attempt is made to relate the "intuitive" classical phenomenology of Gerardus van der Leeuw and the neo-phenomenology of Jacques Waardenburg. An outline of van der Leeuw's methodology is presented along with a summary of Waardenburg's critique. An account is then given of Waardenburg's alternative approach. When the two methodologies are juxtaposed, two points of convergence emerge. The first relates to the non-empirical natur…

  • Sugarcane in Prehistory

    Open Access•John Daniel, J Scott Daniels et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology in Oceania/Archæology…•1993•Cited by: 15•References: 8

We suggest that sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) was a major food for pigs (Sus scrofa) in the New Guinea Highlands prior to the introduction of the sweet potato (Ipomea batatas) about 250 years ago. Taro (Colocasia esculenta) has been favoured in the literature, but pigs do not like raw taro and will only eat most varieties when cooked. Pigs consume sugarcane avidly and it provides a high calorie diet combined with suitable fibre roughage. E…
