Affective Speech Elicited With a Computer Game
To determine the degree to which emotional changes in speech reflect factors other than arousal, such as valence, the authors used a computer game to induce natural emotional speech. Voice samples were elicited following game events that were either conducive or obstructive to the goal of winning and were accompanied by either pleasant or unpleasant sounds. Treatment efficacy
The aim of this paper is to explore patterns of new learning in a group of individuals with aphasia. Participants included eight aphasic and 11 normal, age-matched controls aged between 40 and 84 years. They participated in 6-8 sessions in which the participants completed a lexical-decision task and a simple reaction-time task. The reaction time and accuracy were measured for both tasks. The results reveal greater intersession variability for the…
Case-based training for applications in the clinical and behavioural sciences
This paper discusses the application of computer-based instruction to the acquisition of diagnostic expertise. In the first section we outline arguments for the application of computer-based instruction to the acquisition and maintenance of diagnostic expertise. In the second we identify variables that are critical to the design of effective computer-based instruction for this purpose. In the third section we discuss and review a specific applica…
