Chinese herbal prescription JZ-1 enhances host resistance to herpes simplex virus type 2 through regulating the MRN-ATM-CHK2 DNA damage response
The host MRN-ATM-CHK2 DDR pathway serves as a defensive mechanism against HSV-2 infection by being activated to restrict viral replication. However, HSV-2 infection simultaneously promotes MRE11 degradation, undermining this protective response. JZ-1 exerts its antiviral effects by preventing HSV-2-induced MRE11 degradation, thereby enhancing DDR activation and restricting HSV-2 infection
Unveiling Leptospira prevalence and exposure in sanitation workers, a cross-sectional study in Ningbo City, China
Background The environmental presence of pathogenic Leptospira species poses a substantial threat to human health. Sanitation workers, due to their frequent exposure to contaminated soil or water, are at an increased risk of infection. This study aimed to better understand the risk factor of leptospirosis, pathogen exposure, and carriage among sanitation workers in Ningbo, so to help prevent and manage future outbreaks. Methods A total of 306 sam…
Association between type 2 diabetes mellitus and body composition based on MRI fat fraction mapping
Purpose To explore the association between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and body composition based on magnetic resonance fat fraction (FF) mapping. Methods A total of 341 subjects, who underwent abdominal MRI examination with FF mapping were enrolled in this study, including 68 T2DM patients and 273 non-T2DM patients. The FFs and areas of visceral adipose tissue (VAT), subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and abdominal muscle (AM) were measured a…
Validation of the self-directed learning scale for middle-aged and older adults
Considering the significance of lifelong learning in advancing active aging in aging societies, the ability to engage in self-directed learning plays a crucial role for adults. There are many self-directed learning (SDL) tools available that measure the SDL abilities of nursing students and healthcare professionals. However, fewer SDL tools specifically designed for middle-aged and older adults have been developed. The purpose of this research wa…
Geochemical Fractionation and Source Identification of Pb and Cd in Riparian Soils and River Sediments from Three Lower Reaches Located in the Pearl River Delta
Pb and Cd accumulation in riparian soils and river sediments in river basins is a challenging pollution issue due to the persistence and bioaccumulation of these two trace metals. Understanding the migration characteristics and input sources of these metals is the key to preventing metal pollution. This study was conducted to explore the contents, geochemical fractionation, and input sources of Pb and Cd in riparian soils and river sediments from…
Improved El Niño Southern Oscillation signals extracted by principal component analysis of tree-ring oxygen isotope records from the East Asian monsoon region of China
