Improved Regional Earthquake Magnitude Scaling Relations for the Indian Subcontinent
This study emphasizes the significance of a homogenous earthquake catalogue for assessing seismicity, seismotectonics, seismic hazard, and seismic risk in a region. While various magnitude scales exist in earthquake catalogs, the homogeneity of these scales, particularly regarding the consistent use of the moment magnitude (Mw) scale for small and intermediate magnitude earthquakes, has been a key point of discussion. According to recent research…
Servant Subversions
The British colonial domestic space emerges as a critical site for interrogating the racialised dynamics of empire, owing to the proximity it fostered between the coloniser and the colonised. While extant scholarship predominantly underscores colonial hegemony and control within this space, our study, while acknowledging this premise, undertakes a contrapuntal, against-the-grain reading of Anglo-Indian domestic manuals to foreground the subversiv…

Methodology of Data Collection Unsuited to Changing Rural Reality
Technological change and the modernisation of agriculture in India have led to many changes in farming practices. The mechanisation of field operations such as ploughing and harvesting, for example, has not only changed total labour use in crop production but has led to changes in labour-hiring practices and in wage forms. There is a rise in labour arrangements that pay wages on a piece-rated basis rather than on a time-rated one. In this article…

Kim Scott's 1999 novel Benang has often been read in terms of the anxieties raised by Australia's Stolen Generation Report. However, this article argues that the novel is not a direct attempt to lay bare white Australia's neurosis. Rather, the novel aims to interrogate the colonial discourse that formed the basis of the exploitative, white, monologic, modern nation. Benang also deals with the strategic cultural resistance and negotiating manoeuvr…
