Early Achievement Gaps and Their Associations with Preschool Contexts and Parental Engagement in Hong Kong
Research Findings: Wide achievement gaps closely linked to socioeconomic status (SES) are evident from an early age and persist globally. This study examined family SES-related achievement gaps across different developmental domains among preschool children in Hong Kong and the role of preschool SES and quality and parental engagement in these gaps. The participants were 877 preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years from 18 preschools in Hong Kong. Their ho…
Optimizing Governance Networks in Multi-Actor Collaboration: A Case Study of Community Service in China
Grassroots community governance has gained increasing attention for its vital role in resource integration and multi-actor collaboration. As an innovative governance model, the “Five-Sector Linkage” (FSL) mechanism enhances service efficiency by aligning the efforts of communities, social organizations, social workers, volunteers, and philanthropic actors. However, quantitative research on interaction dynamics within such mechanisms remains insuf…
A systematic review and meta-analysis of breastfeeding and neurodevelopmental outcomes in preterm infant
Depicting the landscape of research on teacher emotion in early childhood education: A systematic review
Early childhood teachers' emotions have increasingly received the attention of researchers in the past decades. The present study conducted a systematic review of the research on early childhood teachers' emotions published in English up to 2022. Based on evidence from 103 empirical studies, the results presented the significant roles of early childhood teachers' emotions in teaching and learning in early childhood education. A conceptual model w…
Obstructive sleep apnea and 19 gastrointestinal diseases: A Mendelian randomization study
This MR analysis provides compelling evidence of an independent causal relationship between genetically predicted OSA and an elevated risk of inflammation-related GDs. Besides, no causal association was observed between OSA and cancers. Further studies should be carried out to verify our findings
Rapid Biodegradation of the Organophosphorus Insecticide Chlorpyrifos by Cupriavidus nantongensis X1T
Chlorpyrifos was one of the most widely used organophosphorus insecticides and the neurotoxicity and genotoxicity of chlorpyrifos to mammals, aquatic organisms and other non-target organisms have caused much public concern. Cupriavidus nantongensis X1 T , a type of strain of the genus Cupriavidus , is capable of efficiently degrading 200 mg/L of chlorpyrifos within 48 h. This is ~100 fold faster than Enterobacter B-14, a well-studied chlorpyrifos…
Quality Assessment and Accessibility Mapping in an Image-Based Geocrowdsourcing Testbed
Geocrowdsourcing is a significant new focus area in mapping for people with disabilities. It utilizes public data contributions that are difficult to capture with traditional mapping workflows. Along with the benefits of geocrowdsourcing are critical drawbacks, including reliability and accuracy. A geocrowdsourcing testbed has been designed to explore the dynamics of geocrowdsourcing and quality assessment and produce temporally relevant navigati…
Pedestrian network repair with spatial optimization models and geocrowdsourced data
Position Validation in Crowdsourced Accessibility Mapping
We live in a society in which instant gratification is expected: we demand constantly up-to-date information, which is reflected in our reliance on maps for navigation. Volunteered geographical information (VGI) and geocrowdsourcing make this demand attainable, with popular examples being Waze and OpenStreetMap, where maps are updated quickly by citizen contributors with current base data and features. At George Mason University (in Fairfax, Virg…
Visualizing spatiotemporal trajectories of mobile social media users using space–time cube
The implementation of social network applications on mobile platforms has significantly elevated the activity of mobile social networking. Mobile social networking offers a channel for recording an individual’s spatiotemporal behaviors when location-detecting capabilities of devices are enabled. It also facilitates the study of time geography on an individual level, which has previously suffered from a scarcity of georeferenced movement data. In …
Geocrowdsourcing and accessibility for dynamic environments
Crowdsourcing techniques for augmenting traditional accessibility maps with transitory obstacle information
One of the most scrutinized contemporary techniques for geospatial data collection and production is crowdsourcing. This inverts the traditional top-down geospatial data production and distribution methods by emphasizing on the participation of the end user or community. The technique has been shown to be particularly useful in the domain of accessibility mapping, where it can augment traditional mapping methods and systems by providing informati…
