  • No country for old workers? Exploring cross-cultural perceptions of the senior workforce

Hwajoon Choi, Seowoo Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Gerontology•2026

As the senior workforce grows, their role in the workplace needs to be reviewed properly. Given that it differs from culture to culture, this study examined cross-cultural perspectives on the senior workforce. We analyzed sentences (N = 246,632) from a research sample, social media reviews of the film The Intern. We chose the film as our research sample because it features an older worker in a contemporary workplace. Using keyword network analysi…

  • Infants’ expectations about caregivers’ comforting behavior and associations with maternal depressive symptoms at 6, 9, and 12 months

Open Access•Kexin Hu, Seowoo Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2026

We examined infants' expectations about caregivers' comforting behavior at 6, 9, and 12 months and assessed associations with maternal depressive symptoms. One hundred thirteen infants (47% female; 72% White, 13% Asian, 6% Black, 6% Latinx, 3% more than one race) and their mothers participated at one or more time points. In a violation-of-expectation task, infants watched video vignettes in which a caregiver either interrupted her household chore…

  • Gender brilliance stereotype emerges early and predicts children's motivation in South Korea

    Open Access•Seowoo Kim, Kyong‐sun Jin et al.•ARTICLE•Child Development•2024

Recent work suggests that the stereotype associating brilliance with men may underpin women's underrepresentation in prestigious careers, yet little is known about its development and consequences in non-Western contexts. The present research examined the onset of this stereotype and its relation to children's motivation in 5- to 7-year-old Korean children (N = 272, 50% girls, tested 2021 to 2022). At age 7, children attributed brilliance to men …

  • Cultivating community-based participatory research (CBPR) to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Michael Hoerger, Seowoo Kim et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced food service workers to experience complex decisions about health and safety, stress and mental health concerns, and longer-term concerns. Challenging health decisions included attempting to avoid an airborne infectious illness when employers were mainly only concerned with droplet precautions and trying to decide protocols for testing and isolation without clear guidance, free tests, or paid sick leave. Key menta…

  • White Matter Correlates of Theory of Mind in Patients With First-Episode Psychosis

Open Access•Nahrie Suk Kim, Tae Young Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Deficits in theory of mind (ToM) are considered as a distinctive feature of schizophrenia. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have suggested that aberrant activity among the regions comprising the mentalizing network is related to observed ToM deficits. However, the white matter structures underlying the ToM functional network in schizophrenia remain unclear. To investigate the relationship between white matter integrity and ToM…
