    Open Access•Margarita Jara, Andrés Napurí•ARTICLE•Letras (Lima•2025

This dossier brings together research dedicated to the study of Peruvian Amazonian Spanish, a set of varieties shaped by contact with indigenous languages and profound socio-political transformations. The works compiled here address phonetic, phonological, morphosyntactic, and discursive phenomena, as well as linguistic attitudes and ideologies, with the aim of characterising the structural and social complexity of these regional dialects.

These linguistic ideologies are crucial to understanding linguistic change and how identities are performed. This work is an exploration of the process of enregisterment and the way in which this process is perceived by educated participants from Iquitos (Peru). In the pre…

Celeste Rodríguez Louro, Margarita Jara Yupanqui et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Hispanic and Lusophone…•2011

In this paper we analyze the Preterit (e.g. Estudié toda la noche) and the Present Perfect (PP) (e.g. He estudiado toda la noche) in the Lima variety of Peruvian Spanish (PER) and in Argentinian River Plate Spanish (ARG). PER and ARG have been described as “pretérito-favoring”. We revisit this proposal and show that - although the Preterit is widespread in both these dialects - the use of the PP and the tendency for the Preterit to appear in PP c…
