    선교사는 복음을 전하는 사명자이다. 선교현장에서 선교사는 현지어에 숙달하려는 능력이나 의지를 분명히 갖추어야 한다. 본 연구는 선교사의 언어적 동일화에 대해 초기 내한 선교사였던 호러스 G. 언더우드, 사무엘 A. 마펫, 제임스 S. 게일을 중심으로 살펴본다. 특별히 올해가 마펫 선교사의 내한 130주년임을 고려할 때 동시대에 내한하여 선교사역한 세 명의 선교사를 살펴보는 것은 더욱 의미가 남다르다고 하겠다.BR 언더우드는 25세에 선교사로 파송 받고 26세의 나이에 내한하여 30여년 동안 선교사역하였고 새문안교회를 설립하여 사역하였다. 언더우드보다 5년 늦게 내한한 마펫은 1890년 내한하여 1936년 그의 나이 72세 때까지 47년 동안 사역하였다. 특별히 평양에 선교지부 설립에 공헌하였고, 1903년 평양신학교 개교, 1904년 평양신학교 초대교장으로 부임하여 교육사역에 35년 동안 전념하…

    하나님의 선교(missio Dei)를 위해 보냄 받은 선교사가 전하는 복음과 사역은 그가 어떠한 선교사이고 어떻게 사역하느냐에 따라 선교의 결과 또한 영향을 받게 된다. 그런데 이러한 선교사의 중요성은 현지 상황에 맞는 ‘선교사 정체성’과 맞물린다. 그리고 ‘선교사 정체성’은 바로 ‘동일화’ (identification)와 관련된 중요한 주제임을 주목한다. ‘선교사 동일화’는 선교지에서 복음을 전하는 선교사가 복음을 들을 현지인들과의 접촉점을 찾고자 노력을 기울이는 모든 과정을 의미한다. 따라서 선교사에게 동일화는 복음을 전하는 사역에 있어서 매우 중요하다. 그런데 이러한 선교사 동일화가 오늘날 한국 선교사들에게도 필요한 연구임을 주목한다. 한국교회는 총회 설립 후 1913년에 중국 산동(山東)에 선교사를 파송하는 산동선교로 해외선교를 시작했고 이후 지속적인 성장을 거듭해왔다. 그러나 앞으로의 …
