Effects of Early Language Stays Abroad on the Foreign Language Proficiency of German High School Students
This study examines the potential effects of language stays abroad, specifically student exchanges and language courses, on the foreign language proficiency of lower secondary students, in particular on their listening and reading comprehension. Using data from a nationwide, large‐scale study on German high school students (academic school track) in Year 9, we focused on students who learned either English ( n = 13,073) or French ( n = 3,261) as …
Academic achievement of refugee students at the end of primary school in Germany

We analysed data from the “IQB Trends in Student Achievement 2021”. Multilevel analyses indicated that refugee child…

Moreover, we examine the nomological net of self-reported knowledge and overclaiming in childhood discussing three perspectives: Overclaiming as (a) a result of deliberate self-enhancement tendencies,…

How do traditionally and alternatively certified teachers differ? A comparison of their motives for teaching, their well-being, and their intention to stay in the profession
This study investigates alternatively certified (AC) teachers’ motives for teaching, their well-being, and their intention to stay in the profession. We conducted multivariate covariance analyses using a large-scale dataset of 446 traditionally certified (TC) teachers and 143 AC teachers at secondary schools in Germany. Findings show that AC teachers reported more frequently than TC teachers that they chose teaching due to social influences and b…
Teaching in Times of Covid-19
To depict the situation during the school closures in spring 2020 that were implemented to contain the spread of COVID-19, we conducted a self-constructed online survey on distance teaching among teachers regarding their teaching practices in this new situation, the challenges they experienced, and the prerequisites for successful distance teaching. The sample consisted of voluntarily participating German elementary ( n = 857) and secondary schoo…
