  • Solving the paradox between the generalized partial credit model and Pisa’s rating instructions

In the PISA 2022 creative thinking test, students provide a response to a prompt, which is then coded by human raters as no credit, partial credit, or full credit. Like many large‐scale educational testing frameworks, PISA uses the generalized partial credit model (GPCM) as a response model for these ordinal ratings. In this paper, we show that the instructions given to the raters violate some assumptions of the GPCM as it is used: Raters are ins…

  • Depressive and Anxious Symptoms, Experimentally Manipulated Acute Social-Evaluative Threat, and Cortisol Reactivity

Megan G Strickland, Nils Myszkowski et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2024

OBJECTIVE: Exposure to social-evaluative threat (SET) can elicit greater physiological responses, including cortisol, compared to non-SET stressors. An individual's level of depressive and anxious symptoms predicts variability in cortisol responses to stressors, and other research suggests that these individual differences may predict vulnerability to social evaluation. The current study integrates both lines of research, testing if there are dif…

Open Access•Sonia Suchday, Kamlesh Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Studies•2024

  • Creativity with 6 Degrees of Freedom

    B Barbot, James C Kaufman et al.•ARTICLE•Creativity Research Journal•2023

Immersive virtual reality (IVR) takes advantage of exponential growth in our technological abilities to offer an array of new forms of entertainment, learning opportunities, and even psychological interventions and assessments. The field of creativity is a driving force in both large-scale innovations and everyday progress, and imbedding creativity assessment in IVR programs has important practical implications for future research and interventio…

  • Individual Differences in Within-Person Variability in Personality Positively Predict Economic Gains and Satisfaction in Negotiations

Open Access•Pınar Çelik, Martin Storme et al.•ARTICLE•Group Decision and Negotiation•2022

  • One Common Factor, Four Resources, Both, or Neither

Nils Myszkowski, Martin Storme et al.•ARTICLE•Measurement and Evaluation in…•2022•References: 1

Career adaptability is better described as interconnected resources than as manifestations of a common factor. Using a sample of 1053 responses to the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale, we compared traditional confirmatory factor analysis models (unidimensional, bifactor, hierarchical) with a confirmatory network model, which is found to outperform the others

  • Accounting for Variable Task Discrimination in Divergent Thinking Fluency Measurement

Open Access•Nils Myszkowski, Martin Storme•ARTICLE•The Journal of Creative Behavior•2021

Fluency tasks are among the most common item formats for the assessment of certain cognitive abilities, such as verbal fluency or divergent thinking. A typical approach to the psychometric modeling of such tasks (e.g., Intelligence , 2016, 57, 25) is the Rasch Poisson Counts Model (RPCM; Probabilistic models for some intelligence and attainment tests . Copenhagen: Danish Institute for Educational Research, 1960), in which, similarly to the assump…

  • Are reflective models appropriate for very short scales? Proofs of concept of formative models using the Ten‐Item Personality Inventory

Open Access•Nils Myszkowski, Martin Storme et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•2019

OBJECTIVE: Because of their length and objective of broad content coverage, very short scales can show limited internal consistency and structural validity. We argue that it is because their objectives may be better aligned with formative investigations than with reflective measurement methods that capitalize on content overlap. As proofs of concept of formative investigations of short scales, we investigate the Ten-Item Personality Inventory (TI…

  • Confirmation of a Two-Factor Solution to the Questionnaire of Cognitive and Affective Empathy in a French Population of Patients With Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders

    Open Access•Éric Brunet-Gouet, Nils Myszkowski et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2019

The Questionnaire of Cognitive and Affective Empathy (QCAE) is a tool for self-assessing the cognitive and emotional components of empathy. A study showed that a two-factor model fits the data of patients with schizophrenia, whereas other reports on healthy subjects have suggested a five-factor decomposition. We aimed to replicate the model of Horan et al. in a French population with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (i.e., schizophrenia and schiz…
