  • «De var ille medfarne og forkomne»

    Open Access•Irene Trysnes•ARTICLE•Prismet•2026

  • When Green Flags Become Red

    Open Access•Irene Trysnes, Beate Goldschmidt-Gjerløw et al.•ARTICLE•NORA - Nordic Journal of Feminist…•2026•References: 7

Norway consistently ranks high on international gender equality indexes. Yet sexual violations, particularly against young women, remain a pressing concern, with reported cases increasing in recent years. Universities are positioned to play a key role in preventing sexual misconduct, but institutional cultures may also reproduce the conditions that enable it. This exploratory study analyzes 340 handwritten anonymous student notes from the 2024 in…

  • Professorpotensial?

  • What Would Jesus Like in Harry Potter

Ingvild Thu Kro, Irene Trysnes•ARTICLE•Nordic Journal of Religion and…•2024

Based on observations conducted in six film groups, this article investigates the usage of film within confirmation teaching. Utilising framing theory in the analysis, we identify various keying-of-film strategies that illustrate how films contribute to framing – and thereby negotiate meaning – in the context of confirmation teaching. These are further connected to the four main ways in which the confirmation leaders frame the films in their teac…

  • Emotional Labour in the Neoliberal University

    Open Access•Tale Steen-Johnsen, May-Linda Magnussen et al.•ARTICLE•NORA - Nordic Journal of Feminist…•2024•Cited by: 2•References: 9

In this article, we show how female academics who have been on sick leave hide feelings of exhaustion, fear, and a lack of control and change these feelings into expressions of control and engagement when interacting with students and colleagues. We contend that these emotional efforts are a response to the emotional culture of the university in which vocation and commitment to teaching and research have become entangled with neoliberal managemen…

  • Hot Case-workers and Squint-eyed Whores” - Sexual Harassment of Norwegian Social- and Health Care Students in Practical Training

Open Access•Irene Trysnes, Elise Frølich Furrebøe et al.•ARTICLE•NORA - Nordic Journal of Feminist…•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 4

Sexual harassment is a societal challenge. Youth, women, students, and health care professionals are some of the groups most at risk for experiencing sexual harassment. In this study, we examine how higher education institutions and practice institutions handle sexual harassment and how students in practical training experience and cope with sexual harassment. A survey and in-depth interviews were conducted among nursing students and social work …

  • The Role of Religion in Young Muslims’ and Christians’ Self-presentation on Social Media

    Open Access•Irene Trysnes, Ronald Mayora Synnes•ARTICLE•Young•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 5

This article examines how young Muslims and Christians with ethnic minority backgrounds in Oslo reflect on their use of social media as a way to present themselves and their religiosity. The study draws upon Arlie Hochschild’s concepts of feeling rules and emotional labour and Erving Goffman’s typology of frontstage and backstage behaviour to analyse how young Muslims and Christian informants present themselves on social media. For minority group…

  • The Trailer as Erotic Capital. Gendered Performances—Research and Participant Roles during Festival Fieldwork

    Open Access•Irene Trysnes•ARTICLE•Societies•2019•References: 3

This article examines different roles and field relations of the researcher in studies of young people at Christian festivals. The main questions are how the researcher gains access to the “flirtation field,” which flirting roles the youth participants engage in, and how the researcher copes with flirtation in the field. The article’s theoretical approach draws on feminist methodology on how positions, roles, and relations are negotiated in field…
