Transfer of Training: The Known and the Unknown
Transfer of training is one of the oldest topics of interest to industrial and organizational (I/O) psychologists. Drawing on several meta-analytic studies and recent empirical work, we first synthesize what is now reliably known with respect to the generalization and retention of learned knowledge and skills to work contexts. The second part of our review focuses on what is unknown—the significant gaps in our knowledge where we believe new direc…
Transfer of Training: A Meta-Analytic Review
Although transfer of learning was among the very first issues addressed by early psychologists, the extant literature remains characterized by inconsistent measurement of transfer and significant variability in findings. This article presents a meta-analysis of 89 empirical studies that explore the impact of predictive factors (e.g., trainee characteristics, work environment, training interventions) on the transfer of training to different tasks …
Emotional intelligence and individual performance: Evidence of direct and moderated effects
We examined the direct and moderated effects of an ability‐based measure of emotional intelligence (MSCEIT© V2.0) on individual performance in a sample of business undergraduates. Controlling for general mental ability and personality, emotional intelligence explained unique incremental variance in performance ratings on only one of two measures of interpersonal effectiveness (public speaking effectiveness). However, the interaction of emotional …
The Social Fabric of a Team-Based m.b.a. Program: Network Effects on Student Satisfaction and Performance.
The present study was an empirical analysis designed to measure the social networks of master of business administration (M.B.A.) students and the networks’ relationships to attitudinal and perform...
Job and life satisfaction: A reevaluation of the strength of the relationship and gender effects as a function of the date of the study.
Etude meta-analytique de 34 recherches effectues dans differents secteurs des sciences humaines sur les rapports entre les satisfactions vis-a-vis de l'existence et du travail
Transfer of Training: A Review and Directions for Future Research
Transfer of training is of paramount concern for training researchers and practitioners. Despite research efforts, there is a growing concern over the “transfer problem.” The purpose of this paper is to provide a critique of the existing transfer research and to suggest directions for future research investigations. The conditions of transfer include both the generalization of learned material to the job and the maintenance of trained skills over…
