The ideal-reality gap
Background: As pivotal figures in patient safety management, nurse managers are well-positioned to gain comprehensive insights into the barriers and concerns surrounding nurses' speaking up for patient safety (SUPS) due to their close engagement with frontline nurses. However, few studies have investigated nurse managers' perspectives on SUPS. Therefore, this study aimed to explore nurse middle managers' perceptions and recommendations regarding …
Analysis of the characteristics of parents’ reasons for refusing HPV vaccination for their daughters
HPV vaccine refusal among Chinese parents is heterogeneous and appears to be shaped by cognitive, emotional, and social factors. Tailored interventions are therefore warranted. Segmented strategies that address cluster-specific drivers may reduce vaccine hesitancy more effectively than uniform public health messaging
Animal exploitation transformations in relation to geopolitical shifts from the Zhou to Han Dynasty in the Yellow River valley, China

Characteristics of cybercrimes
China has witnessed a rapid growth in internet use alongside an unprecedented increase in cybercrimes. Although studies have suggested that there are many factors that may contribute to the growing number of cybercrimes, such as the widespread use of online gaming, the low average income of internet users, and an increased access to IT skills, systematic analyses of actual convictions are rare. As the level of domestic cybercriminal activities in…
Measuring the Redistributive Effects of China's Personal Income Tax
Personal income tax is a commonly used redistributive instrument to deal with inequality. Whether it achieves that efficacy requires an appropriate measurement. This paper aims to examine the redistributive effects of personal income tax (PIT) based on the generalized entropy indexes. Compared with the commonly used approach based on the Gini coefficient, the generalized entropy indexes are more sensitive to the structural features of the redistr…
Trends in maternal mortality in resident vs. migrant women in Shanghai, China, 2000–2009
Although Shanghai has good maternal health indicators, it also has a large in-migrating population, which has made control of maternal mortality a major challenge. All live births were registered and every maternal death audited. The number of live births rose from 84,898 in 2000 to 187…
Chinese newspaper coverage of genetically modified organisms
This study demonstrates that the Chinese print media is largely supportive of GMOs. It also indicates that the print media describes the Chinese government as actively pursuing national GMO research and development programs and the promotion of GM cotton usage. So far, discussion of the risks associated with GMOs is minimal in the news reports. The media, scientists, and the government should work together to ensure that science communication is …
