Is there a nexus between tourism development and energy transition in Asia-Pacific countries
This paper examines the impact of tourism development on energy intensity and clean energy in 23 Asia-Pacific countries from 2000 to 2019. To ensure robust findings, both ordinary least squares (OLS) and quantile regression were applied. The findings reveal a long-term equilibrium relationship between tourism development, urbanisation, income, industrialisation, and energy transition. OLS results indicate that tourism contributes to energy effici…
Pandemic‐induced uncertainty and tourism demand
This paper explores the mitigating effect of democratic institutions in the nexus of tourism and pandemic‐induced uncertainty in 24 Organisation for Economic Co‐operation and Development (OECD) countries. Utilizing dynamic panel data analysis in the modeling process, the findings reveal that increased pandemic‐related uncertainty in the target market negatively affects the tourism demand. However, the presence of democratic institutions in the de…
Does migration fear affect tourism demand? Evidence from instrumental variable cointegration test
Migration and migration-caused concerns and uncertainties have been rising dramatically in recent years at the global level. However, our knowledge of the impact of migration-related concerns on tourism is limited. To address this gap, we estimate the impact of the US migration fears on tourist arrivals from Western Europe to the US using a tourism demand model. The paper employs a new robust cointegration approach with instrumental variables. Ou…
Green innovation and ecological footprint relationship for a sustainable development
The ecological pressure of humanity on the planet measured by ecological footprint has been enlarging, which upsurges environmental threats. At this point, green innovation emerges as an optimal solution to sustainable development which brings together economic growth and environmental protection. This paper explores the nexus between green innovation and ecological footprint for the case of the top 20 green innovator countries. As a comprehensiv…
Are shocks to tourist arrivals permanent or transitory? A comprehensive analysis on the top 20 most-visited countries
Tourism sector is highly vulnerable to shocks due to its characteristics. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether the effects of the shocks on the tourism sector would be permanent or transitory. To this end, I analysed the number of tourist arrivals in the top 20 most-visited countries for the 1995–2018 period. I employed a battery of cross-sectional dependency tests, second-generation panel unit root tests without and with structura…
Dynamics of tourism demand in Turkey
Turkey, an emerging economy, ranked 8th among the most visited countries in the world in 2017. Given the importance of the tourism sector in Turkey, it is of utmost importance to identify the dynamics of tourism demand to achieve sustainable tourism. The aim of this article is, therefore, to explore the demand-side factors that affect the number of international tourist arrivals to Turkey. To this end, an augmented gravity model has been employed…
