When science meets geopolitics
Global AI research has shifted from an open, collaborative enterprise to a domain shaped by strategic rivalry. This study examines the evolution of international AI research collaboration networks from 2000 to 2025 through bibliometric and social network analysis of 1.4 million publications from the Web of Science. We identify four phases: a unipolar Western-led network (2000–2009), China’s rise and bipolar emergence (2010–2016), peak collaborati…
The Effect of Housing Prices on Urban Innovation Capability
This study investigates the impact of rising housing prices on urban innovation capabilities from a comprehensive and systemic perspective, using panel data from 246 Chinese cities from 2004 to 2020. The findings challenge traditional views that emphasize only the negative effects of high housing prices on innovation. Instead, the analysis reveals that rising housing prices can enhance urban innovation through specific mechanisms. These include a…
Competitor-Weighted Centrality and Small-World Clusters in Competition Networks on Firms’ Innovation Ambidexterity
A firm's embedding structures in a technology competition network can influence its propensity for innovation ambidexterity. Using PCT (patent cooperation treaty) patent data of wind energy companies between 2010 and 2019, we adopted social network analysis and fixed-effects panel negative binomial regression to examine the impacts of network structural features on firm innovation ambidexterity. The results show that competitor-weighted centralit…
