Regularization of Synthetic Controls for Policy Evaluation
We propose a unified framework for interpreting and comparing a broad class of synthetic control (SC) methods. Our framework is built on an analysis of a mean‐squared prediction error (MSPE) bound for the counterfactual predicted by a generic SC method, without imposing a specific outcome model. Using this framework, we develop a generalized SC method that provides a more comprehensive regularization of the MSPE bound than several existing SC met…
Employee demand–ability fit and promotability ratings
Purpose The study explores the mechanism between employee demand–ability fit and promotability ratings. Moreover, we examine whether political skill moderates the relationship above. Design/methodology/approach The present study received 260 effective supervisor-rated questionnaires from various industries in Taiwan. Findings The results reveal that employee demand–ability fit positively relates to promotability ratings, and task performance medi…
Team‐based Pocus resuscitation simulation
The increasing complexity of modern medical practice presents challenges for medical students and novice physicians as they prepare for independent practice. Many recent graduates lack adequate practical skills and teamwork experience, particularly in high-stakes areas like emergency resuscitation, where errors can result in serious consequences.1 Although physicians are expected to lead emergency teams, traditional medical training rarely emphas…
Psychological Resilience May Be Related to Students’ Responses to Victims of School Bullying
There was a positive relationship between primary school bullying responses and psychological resilience among victims, with differences by sex. Therefore, increasing students' level of psychological resilience, possibly by improving their responses, is important for preventing school bullying. Meanwhile, effective interventions for school bullying should be developed from multiple perspectives, particularly sex, bullying roles, and psychological…
A Unified Approach to Estimating and Testing Income Distributions With Grouped Data
We propose a unified approach that is flexibly applicable to various types of grouped data for estimating and testing parametric income distributions. To simplify the use of our approach, we also provide a parametric bootstrap method and show its asymptotic validity. We also compare this approach with existing methods for grouped income data, and assess their finite-sample performance by a Monte Carlo simulation. For empirical demonstrations, we …
Study of Patients’ Willingness to Pay for a Cure of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in Taiwan
The results of this study provide directions for the relevant authorities regarding the alleviation of suffering as a result of COPD. Appropriate health promotion measures, such as measures to reduce tobacco usage, early diagnosis, and active treatment, may be necessary to contain the escalating costs related to COPD and to prevent this epidemic from worsening
Chewing areca nut increases the risk of coronary artery disease in taiwanese men
Long-term areca nut chewing was an independent risk factor of obstructive CAD in Taiwanese men. Interactive effects between chewing areca nut and cigarette smoking, hypertension, and dyslipidemia were also observed for CAD risk. Further exploration of their underlying mechanisms is necessary
Moment-Based Copula Tests for Financial Returns
We propose a class of moment-based tests for copulas in a parametric multivariate dynamic context for financial returns. The proposed method takes into account the effect of estimation uncertainty. This effect is quite important but often is ignored in related studies. Our method can be applied to generate various tests to detect copula misspecification in different directions. In particular, on the basis of the conditional probabilities of quant…
