Open Access•Dazhe Dong, Xiaoyu Liang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2026

Academic burnout (AB) and academic procrastination (AP) are common among high school students and negatively affect their academic performance. However, as significant psychological phenomena related to students’ academic success, the complex interaction between AB and AP, along with their relationship with social-emotional competence (SEC), has not been thoroughly investigated. Based on the ego depletion theory, this study aims to explore the co…

  • Association between atherogenic index of plasma and physical dysfunction: A cross-sectional study of middle-aged and older adults in China

Open Access•Jianghui Zhou, Yun Chang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background Physical dysfunction is common in older adults and increases disease risk. The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) is a promising biomarker for this condition. This study explored the dose–response relationship between AIP and physical dysfunction. Methods Data from 11,369 CHARLS participants (aged ≥45 years) in 2015 and 2018 were analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression, adjusting for demographics and lifestyle fac…

  • Wildfire risk in Alaska: Spatial association between social vulnerability, wildfire hazard, and wildfire mitigation programs

Open Access•Xiaoyu Liang, Desheng Liu•ARTICLE•Landscape and Urban Planning•2025

Key factors in social vulnerability and wildfire risk vary across social contexts. • Federal fuel treatments are more equitably distributed across vulnerable groups. • CWPPs and state fuel treatments, placed near urban, link to lower vulnerability. High-latitude regions are experiencing larger, longer, and more severe wildfires, leading to significant impacts on ecosystems and human societies. However, quantitative assessments of wildfire risk th…

  • Development and Validation of the Icap GenAI Scale to Measure How Graduate Students Integrate Generative AI Into Academic Research

Open Access•Jianzhen Zhang, Weihao Pan et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Education•2025

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has profoundly reshaped how graduate students conceptualise, design and conduct academic research in higher education. While current metrics predominantly focus on technology acceptance and usage patterns, they often neglect the diverse cognitive engagements in graduate students' integration of GenAI across academic research activities. This study developed and validated a novel scale, grounded in the In…

  • Enhancing species diversity through mixed plantations of native tree species mytilaria laosensis and michelia macclurei in southern China

Open Access•Liurong Yang, Yuanfa Li et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2025

Mixed forests show higher mixed–monoculture similarity than monocultures. • Most diversity indices in mixed forests exceed the average values of monocultures. • Regeneration diversity in plantations declines exponentially with ground diameter. • Planting patterns and species alter plantation species composition and diversity. Mixed-species planting promotes forest growth and enhances ecological functions. However, it remains unclear whether mixed…
