  • Audiobooks and Artificial Intelligence

    Open Access•Marta Magadán-Díaz, Álvaro Cabezas-Clavijo et al.•ARTICLE•Publishing Research Quarterly•2025

This study explores the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the production and consumption of audiobooks. As AI technologies advance, the publishing industry has increasingly adopted synthetic voices, which offer cost reductions and enable the creation of personalized, multilingual content. The journal Sustainability, published by MDPI, was the journal that published the most papers by researchers from Spanish institutions in 2020. This justifies a detailed examination of the Spanish scientific production in this journal. At the same time, the work of editing monographic issues in which papers with Spanish authors have been published is analyzed. For this purpose, we have identified whether each paper belongs to regular or to specia…

  • Altmetrics

    Open Access•Daniel Torres‐Salinas, Álvaro Cabezas-Clavijo et al.•ARTICLE•Comunicar•2013•Cited by: 10•References: 2

In this paper we review the socalled altmetrics or alternative metrics. This concept raises from the development of new indicators based on Web 2.0, for the evaluation of the research and academic activity. The basic assumption is that variables such as mentions in blogs, number of twits or of researchers bookmarking a research paper for instance, may be legitimate indicators for measuring the use and impact of scientific publications. In this se…

  • Google Scholar Metrics

    Open Access•Emilio Delgado López‐Cózar, Emilio Delgado-López-Cózar et al.•ARTICLE•El Profesional de la Informacion•2012•Cited by: 1

We introduce Google Scholar Metrics (GSM), a new bibliometric product of Google that aims at providing the H-index for scientific journals and other information sources. We conduct a critical review of GSM showing its main characteristics and possibilities as a tool for scientific evaluation. We discuss its coverage along with the inclusion of repositories, bibliographic control, and its options for browsing and searching. We conclude that, despi…

The emergence in the scientific community of an initiative known as data sharing, consisting of sharing research data among researchers and aiming to maximize efforts and resources, is analysed. First, the concept of research data and the related technical difficulties depending on the discipline are reviewed. We also examine the motivations, origins and growth of this movement, which has had an important impact on the scientific community’s beha…

    Open Access•Álvaro Cabezas-Clavijo, Daniel Torres‐Salinas•ARTICLE•El Profesional de la Informacion•2010•Cited by: 4

The new publishing and scientific communication environments have led to the emergence of new Web indicators. Along with usage metrics such as downloads there are many measures that are generated from Science 2.0. Journals published by the Public Library of Science systematically collect many of these new metrics. The objective of this paper is to present some of these new indicators and analyze them quantitatively through the case study of 8945 …

Several indicators of production and participation in Spanish library and information science blogs are analysed, based on a sample of 46 personal and corporate weblogs. The 12 blogs with the highest number of incoming links logged more than 70% of the total number of links received by the whole group. Our results detect an important decline in production during the study period, keeping constant the comments-per-post indicator. More than 50% of …
