Arguments against a “general and permanent” ban on pediatric intersex surgery: A response to Clune‐Taylor
The paper offers a critical response to the proposed “dis/analogy” between the restriction of Jehovah's Witness parental right to refuse life‐saving blood transfusions for their minor children and a “general” and “permanent” ban on “unnecessary” pediatric intersex surgery. The main argument of the analogy is “securing the patient's future autonomy.” Feinberg's theory of rights is used to demonstrate that the proposed analogy is untenable. A new c…
Durkheim’s ambivalence towards psychology and the foundations of sociology as a discipline
The paper explores Durkheim?s ambivalent position towards psychology, drawing on his debates with Comte, Tarde, and Wundt. In addressing this issue, we propose different types of anti-psychologism in sociology: epistemological (excluding psychological dimensions from sociological explanations), institutional (denying psychology the status of science), and strategic (establishing sociology as a scientific field). The analysis shows that Durkheim?s…
Gender differences in perception of the appropriate maturity age for men and women: Age norms of reproduction-related life events between the social context and evolutionary foundations
The paper explores gender differences in the perception of appropriate age for reproduction-related life events. Evolutionary theory suggests that age norms are shaped by gender-specific evolutionary challenges. We tested two hypotheses based on the evolutionary rationale. Hypothesis 1 suggests that both men and women believe that women should reach maturity and experience reproduction-related life events earlier than men. Hypothesis 2 claims tha…

In addition to their main practical purpose, qualitative applied policy research studies are used to legitimize public policy programs, social interventions, and initiatives. Compared to quantitative research, qualitative methods provide insight into the contextual and complex situational factors, which may be …

Are we there yet?’ Citizens of Serbia and public policy on gender equality within the EU accession context
This article explores three dimensions of the current state of gender equality in Serbia: public policy on gender equality, public opinion on gender equality and the context of Serbia’s accession to the EU. Raymond Boudon: La sociologie comme science
This short volume is much more than a pocket book about ‘sociology as a science’; it is quite simply Boudon's intellectual autobiography. This genre is quite rare in contemporary sociology and among contemporary sociologists, only Pierre Bourdieu has produced a similarly self-reflective autobiography and memoir (Esquisse pour une autoanalyse). But La sociologie comme science is not just a book about Boudon by Boudon. It is also a short dictionary…
