Rasch Analysis and Differential Item Functioning of the Time Management Questionnaire among University Students
Time management, crucial for success in personal, professional, and social life, is frequently assessed using scales, with the Time Management Questionnaire (TMQ) being a widely used tool. This study examines the psychometric properties of the TMQ using Item Response Theory. Behavioral economics and monetary wisdom
Corruption involves greed, money, and risky decision‐making. We explore the love of money, pay satisfaction, probability of risk, and dishonesty across cultures. Avaricious monetary aspiration breeds unethicality. Prospect theory frames decisions in the gains‐losses domain and high‐low probability. Pay dissatisfaction (in the losses domain) incites dishonesty in the name of justice at the individual level. The Corruption Perceptions Index, CPI, s…

Visual motor integration as a screener for responders and non-responders in preschool and early school years
Visual motor integration (VMI) is the ability of the eyes and hands to work together in smooth, efficient patterns. In Oman, there are few effective methods to assess VMI skills in children in inclusive settings. The current study investigated the performance of preschool and early school years responders and non-responders on a VMI test. The full range test of visual motor integration (FRTVMI) was administered to a sample of 359 children from pr…
Variations in Arabic Reading Skills between Normally Achieving and at Risk for Reading Disability Students in Second and Fourth Grades

A short version of Buri's (1991) 30-item Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ), a widely used measure of Baumrind's (1971) model of authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive parenting styles, has been developed in this study. The participants were 3,025 middle and high school students from Oman. The sample was randomly divided into 2 subsamples. The first sample ( N = 1,504) was used for the development of the short version, and the second sa…
Depression Symptoms among Omani Children
The present study explored the existence of depressive symptoms among Omani children according to sex and age. The Arabic translated version of the Multidimensional Child and Adolescent Depression Scale was administered to 1,749 children (828 boys, 921 girls) ranging in age from 10 to 18 years old (M= 13.9, SD = 2.3) from 10 schools representing different areas of Muscat, Oman. The results showed no differences in the total mean scores on depress…
Optimism and Pessimism in Kuwaiti and Omani Undergraduates
In this study we investigated cultural differences and correlates of optimism and pessimism in Kuwaiti ( n = 600) and Omani ( n = 600) undergraduates. All respondents completed the Arabic Scale of Optimism and Pessimism (ASOP; Abdel-Khalek & Alansari, 1995), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II; Beck, Steer, & Brown, 1996), and the Kuwait University Anxiety Scale (KUAS; Abdel-Khalek, 2000). The ASOP displayed good internal consistency, a meaning…
Psychometric Properties of Raven's Colored Progressive Matrices for Omani Children Aged 5 Through 11 Years
The aim in this study was to identify Omani children's psychometric properties on the Raven's Colored Progressive Matrices (CPM; Raven, Court, & Raven, 1986; Raven, Raven, & Court, 1998), using a sample of 372 5- to 11-year-olds. Analysis of the data shows that the sample was distributed normally. The test demonstrated good validity and reliability indices and is considered to be a suitable measure to assess nonverbal intelligence of young Omani …
