Both academic, peer-reviewed articles and gray literature were included and documents meeting a priori inclusion criteria were screened for: focus on healthy roman…
Development and Validation of the Acceptance of Sexualized Aggression Scale Among U.S. College Women
Sexualized aggression - common, everyday forms of contact and non-contact sexual violence - is commonly experienced by young women in social drinking settings, such as parties, bars, and clubs. Existing scales intended to assess permissive attitudes toward violence against women do not capture women's attitudes toward sexualized aggression at all, let alone in drinking environments. To address this gap in the literature, we developed the Acceptan…

Name-calling, jealousy, and break-ups: Teen girls’ and boys’ worst experiences of digital dating
Gender matters: Experiences and consequences of digital dating abuse victimization in adolescent dating relationships
Digital dating abuse (DDA) behaviors include the use of digital media to monitor, control, threaten, harass, pressure, or coerce a dating partner. In this study, 703 high school students reported on the frequency of DDA victimization, whether they were upset by these incidents, and how they responded. Results suggest that although both girls and boys experienced DDA at similar rates of frequency (with the exception of sexual coercion), girls repo…

Highlights Youth may not report dating or sexual abuse if they have concerns about confidentiality. No procedures exist to support research participants who are adolescent survivors of abuse. We conducted a structured ethical decision‐making process to solve our ethical dilemma. Our novel protocol helps balance participant confidentiality with survivor welfare

Digital dating abuse (DDA) is a pattern of behaviors that control, pressure, or threaten a dating partner using a cell phone or the Internet. A survey of 365 college students was conducted, finding that digital monitoring behaviors were especially common. There were no gender differences in number of DDA behaviors experienced, but women reported more negative hypothetical reactions to sexual messaging than men. DDA was associated with measures of…
