Estimación de la comprensibilidad en paneles de museos
The objective of this paper is the assessment of the comprehensibility in museum panels, considering that they are addressed to all audiences and written in standard language. The indicators proposed in the scientific bibliography on comprehensibility are compiled. Subsequently, their application to the museum panels is analyzed. A corpus is built with the texts of panels from six museums and the difficulty of the panels is evaluated by means of …
Tendencias en el perfil tecnológico del profesional de la información
New technologies require an upgrade of LIS professionals’ skills. This study analyzes changes in the field and suggests guidelines to improve LIS curriculum. We have carried out a content analysis of 20 curricula from LIS educational programs to identify terms associated with technological skills. In addition, we identified terms related to new competences from 735 job openings published on generic web sites and 170 on specific web sites. These t…
Visualización y recuperación de información en la web semántica
The authors have questioned how the semantic web search engines work and if the graphical display of the search results improves the retrieval. The types of queries that can be performed, as well as the main features of a semantic search engine, have been analyzed. A query was selected and executed in semantic search engines with online access to DBpedia. The basic and desirable functionality in a semantic web search engine, and reviewed studies …
Tesauros
Thesauri and other knowledge organization systems have been adapted to the technological environment. Currently, this represents an essential aspect of knowledge organization on the semantic web. After a long period in which thesaurus guidelines and standards were not updated, some have been revised by the governing organisations within the past five years. Consensus among international experts has resulted in publication of the first part of an …

We evaluated three free software applications for administrative archives management and their implementation in university archives. Software evaluated was: Archon, Archivists ’ toolkit and ICA-AtoM. The comparative analysis considered 12 requirements concerning metadata management, description standards and lending, and document life-cycle analysis. The results show the requirements met by each software application evaluated. Although currently…
Sistemas de recuperación de información adaptados al dominio biomédico
The terminology used in biomedicine has lexical characteristics that have required the elaboration of terminological resources and information retrieval systems with specific functionalities. The main characteristics are the high rates of synonymy and homonymy, due to phenomena such as the proliferation of polysemic acronyms and their interaction with common language. Information retrieval systems in the biomedical domain use techniques oriented …
Indexing languages in information Management, a promising future or an obsolete resource
Indexing languages have traditionally been an essential tool for organizing and retrieving documental information. The inclusion of indexing languages into the digital environment leads to new frontiers, but also new opportunities. This study shows the historical evolution of the indexing languages and its application in document management field. We analyze diverse trends for their digital use from two perspectives: its integration with other di…
Hacia una web semántica social
The internet’s evolution toward a scenario of greater potential, with users increasingly involved in its development and management, demands a lower level of semantic ambiguity in the documents that are provided. The proposed semantic web, a concept that appeared almost a decade ago, has had only modest impact. On the other hand, web 2.0, an autonomous evolution of the web toward a collaborative environment, has met with enormous success. The sol…
De repente, ¿todos hablamos de ontologías
The number of papers written on ontologies has increased considerably over the last twenty years. This trend can be easily observed by searching words like “ontology” or “thesaurus” in databases. Despite this fact, there hasn’t been a consensus about the significance of this concept. The graphical representation known as ontology spectrum must have generated a lot of confusion amongst readers. In this paper we argue that this confusion is due to …
