Factores asociados a la intención de abandonar los estudios superiores
To explore the complexity of dropout, the joint effects of motivation and resilience on transfer and dropout intentions are analysed. Using a sample of 477 Spanish students, t-tests and logistic regression models were applied. Multivariate results indicate that intrinsic motivation and amotivation explain 44.4% of transfer intentions and intrinsic motivation, external regulation and amotivation explain 48.1% of dropout intentions. These high perc…
Analysis of the contribution of critical thinking and psychological well-being to academic performance
This study examines the influence of critical thinking and psychological well-being on the academic performance of first-year college students. It emphasizes the importance of a model of psychological well-being focused on self-acceptance, environmental mastery and purpose in life, along with a critical thinking approach oriented to problem solving and decision making. A total of 128 first-year psychology students from a Spanish public university…
A comparative analysis to depict underlying attributes that might determine successful implementation of local adaptation plans
Current trends in climate change indicate that the impact on the most vulnerable systems will increase. Urban areas, which concentrate population, economic activity and infrastructures, are sometimes at high-risk locations. Yet they are to be considered as vulnerable systems in need of harmonized structures supporting their efforts towards mitigating climate effects and/or adapting their territories to them. One current structure is the Covenant …
Assessment of climate change mitigation policies in 315 cities in the Covenant of Mayors initiative
The Paris agreement recognises the key role of local authorities in reaching the 1,5 °C target. The Covenant of Mayors (CoM) has been an unprecedented phenomenon in the arena of transnational initiatives in climate action at local level. The initiative has expanded tremendously over the past 10 years, covering more than 9 600 local authorities and 327 million inhabitants as of June 2019. This study analyses policies and measures adopted and imple…
Covenant of mayors signatories leading the way towards 1.5 degree global warming pathway
An increasing number of cities and local governments adhere to transnational initiatives on climate change mitigation, but quantification of their contribution to the Paris Agreement commitments is lacking. To address this, the climate mitigation trajectory to 2050 of Covenant of Mayors (CoM) signatories has been studied. As of October 2017 there are more than 7600 signatories covering 238 million inhabitants, mainly from European cities. Of thes…
Multilevel governance of sustainable energy policies
Worldwide, there are an increasing number of transnational networks on climate actions driven by non-state actors. There is a wealthy literature analysing models of multilevel governance of climate change focusing mainly on the engagement of cities and local governments. To a lesser extent research has focused on the collaboration between regional administrations and local governments. Against this backdrop, we introduce the multilevel-governance…
Towards a global comprehensive and transparent framework for cities and local governments enabling an effective contribution to the Paris climate agreement
An institutional analysis to address climate change adaptation in Tenerife (Canary Islands)
Heat waves and Saharan dust outbreaks have been acquiring more frequency and intensity in the Canary Islands during the last decades. Both climatic hazards are known to produce impacts on human health such as mortality (due to heat waves) and morbidity (due to dusty weather). This work addresses possible climate adaptation policies in Tenerife assuming the increasing impact of heat waves and Saharan dust outbreaks in the island under a climate ch…
