The intriguing relation between parenting styles and eldercare
Coupled Optical and Molecular Insights Into Dissolved Organic Matter Dynamics in Runoff From Patchy Slopes Co‐Covered by Vegetation and Biocrusts During Rainfall in Arid and Semiarid Regions
Arid landscapes are shifting from biocrusts‐ or vascular plant‐dominated systems to mosaics where both coexist under climate change; yet, dissolved organic matter (DOM) dynamics in these transitional habitats remain poorly understood. Therefore, three types of runoff plots were set on slopes with biocrusts (BC), Bothriochloa ischaemum (L.) + biocrusts (BI BC ), and Artemisia sacrorum Ledeb. + biocrusts (AS BC ) in a typical semiarid region. The d…
A model of employment discrimination against minorities
This paper explores how minority group size moderates the effect of employer prejudice on hiring discrimination. We propose a simple job search model in which prejudiced employers retain hiring discretion but are legally required to offer equal pay to all workers. Our analysis suggests that employers are more likely to exclude smaller minority groups from employment; however, as the minority population increases, employment discrimination diminis…
Development and validation of a prognostic risk model for pediatric patients with left-to-right shunt congenital heart disease and heart failure
This retrospective study aimed to develop a reliable prognostic model for pediatric patients with left-to-right (L-R) shunt congenital heart disease (CHD) complicated by heart failure (HF), based on clinical data collected from 407 cases between August 2012 and June 2024. The cohort included 63.4% male patients with a median age of 4.33 months, and participants were randomly assigned to a training set ( n = 284, 69.8%) and an internal validation …
An investigation into the impact of family integrated care on extrauterine growth restriction at discharge in very low birth weight infants
Background: Family integrated care (FIC) encourages parental involvement in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and has been found to promote weight gain in preterm infants. Extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR) results from inadequate growth among very low birth weight infants (VLBWI), which has been found to contribute to parental anxiety. To address an existing gap in research, we aimed to examine the impact of parental involvement on EUGR a…
Time-Series Forecasting in Sports
This study investigates the use of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) models for predicting stadium attendance in National Football League (NFL) games. Using a comprehensive dataset spanning 26 years and incorporating various game-specific, economic, and temporal features, the performance of LSTM and GRU architectures in forecasting attendance rates is compared. The analysis reveals that both models effectively capture u…
Transmission of tuberculosis in an incarcerated population during the subclinical period
Objectives: As a closed gathering place, prison is the cradle of tuberculosis (TB) outbreak. Therefore, the analysis of the prevalence rate and risk factors of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in prison will be a necessary measure to intervene in the spread of tuberculosis. Methods: In this study, we consecutively recruited 506 adult prisoners in Qingdao to carry out this cross-sectional study. TB and LTBI were screened by IGRA, X-ray, X-pert…
Mediating effects of negative cognitive bias and negative affect on neuroticism and depression
The impact of Covid-19 on cultural industries
The COVID-19 virus has challenged the development of the cultural industries seriously, so far, however few studies have used empirical methods to analyze the impact of the pandemic on the overall cultural industries. Based on the panel data of listed companies, this paper explores the impact of COVID-19 on cultural industries from the perspective of stock market returns. The empirical results show that the pandemic has a significant negative imp…
Impact of Xpert MTB/RIF on Outcomes of Adults Hospitalized With Spinal Tuberculosis
Background Spinal tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most common forms of extrapulmonary tuberculosis, causing increased morbidity and lifelong disabilities. Here, we conducted a retrospective study to determine the impact on patient outcomes of the Xpert MTB/RIF test vs. phenotypical drug susceptibility testing for spinal TB. Methods In-patients with spinal TB were enrolled in 2013 and 2017 at Beijing Chest Hospital. Data were collected from an ele…
Corporate social responsibility and Chinese employees' work engagement
Despite growing evidence to suggest that corporate social responsibility (CSR) is positively related to employees' work engagement, empirical support for this relationship has been limited, especially in the Chinese cultural context. In this study we examined the association between CSR and employees' work engagement in China, and proposed guanxi (social interaction outside of work) of supervisor and subordinates as a mediator of this relationshi…
Morin Mitigates Oxidative Stress, Apoptosis and Inflammation in Cerebral Ischemic Rats
Background: Morin is a flavanoid which exhibits potent antioxidant activity in various oxidative stress related diseases. The current study was attempted to scrutinize the preclinical bio-efficacy of morin on focal ischemia. Methods: The animal model of focal cerebral ischemic injury was done by midbrain carotid artery occlusion (MCAO) method, followed by Morin (30mg/kg) administration for seven days. Results: The outcome of the study showed that…
