Glutathione S-Transferase P1 Genetic Variant’s Influence on the HbA1c Level in Type Two Diabetic Patients
GST (glutathione S-transferases) are capable of influencing glucose homeostasis, probably through regulation of the response to oxidant stress. The aim of our study was to investigate the relationship between GSTP1 gene polymorphism and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in type two diabetic (T2D) patients. A total of 307 T2D patients were included. Analysis of the GSTP1 gene polymorphism (rs1695) was conducted using the TaqMan qPCR method endpoi…
Association between Glutathione S-Transferases Gene Variants and Covid-19 Severity in Previously Vaccinated and Unvaccinated Polish Patients with Confirmed Sars-CoV-2 Infection
As the outcome of COVID-19 is associated with oxidative stress, it is highly probable that polymorphisms of genes related to oxidative stress were associated with susceptibility and severity of COVID-19. The aim of the study was to assess the association of glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) gene polymorphisms with COVID-19 severity in previously vaccinated and unvaccinated Polish patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. A total of 92 not vac…
Burden of Covid-19 Mortality and Morbidity in Poland in 2020
In 2020 COVID-19 caused 41,442 deaths in Poland. We aimed to estimate the burden of COVID-19 using years of potential life lost (YPLL) and quality-adjusted years of life lost (QALYL). YPLL were calculated by multiplying the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the analyzed age/sex group by the residual life expectancy for that group. Standard and country-specific (local) life tables were used to calculate SPYLL and LPYLL, respectively. QALYL were …
The implementation of integrated care for cardiovascular diseases in Poland
Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases [CVD] are the leading cause of hospitalizations and mortality among adults in Poland [1]. Polish patients die of CVD 1.5 times more frequent than average in Europe [1, 2], but the frequency of hospitalizations caused by CVD is similar to other EU countries [1]. Large-scale efforts to implement early recognition and prevention strategies of leading modifiable risk factors of CVD (tobacco use, obesity, high blo…
Integrated care for diabetes patients in Poland
Introduction: Diabetes is acknowledged to be one of the major cardiovascular risk factors, which are the most prevalent cause of death in Poland [1]. As a substudy of implementing integrated care for cardiovascular patients, an integrated care project for diabetic patients was developed.Short description of practice change implemented: In Poland ambulatory healthcare is diffuse, paper-based and limited by lack of information flow. We implemented …

Outcome determinants of health systems integration
The abstract presents results of the InterQuality Project - International Research Project on Financing Quality in funded by the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) for Research and Technological Development of the European Union. Grant Agreement No: HEALTH-F3-2010-261369 Introduction: Indispensable factors to achieve of implementation of a new integrated healthcare delivery system should be defined in advance to avoid failure. Challenges and changes in the Polish healthcare system
The healthcare reform package submitted to the Polish parliament could lead to a radical and fundamental change in existing business models and in the rules on marketing activities. The most important provisions introduced by the new Reimbursement Act are: fixed markups and prices of reimbursed medicines, introduction of a pay-back system, risk-sharing mechanisms, tax on income from reimbursements, a maximum (total) reimbursement budget, new ther…
