Socio-Economics and Economic Sociology
The author tries to demonstrate the differences and points for integration of socio-economics and economic sociology. This is the first detailed review on this issue that was done in Russian language
The Novosibirsk School of Economic Sociology
These days one often hears that academic schools never existed in Soviet sociology, nor could they have. Using the Novosibirsk collective of economic sociology as an example, we would like to show that academic schools were formed even in Soviet sociology (including "provincial" sociology), many of which have survived and are developing at present despite the difficulties of the transition period. We will attempt to substantiate this assertion
Voluntary and Forced Adaptation
Periods of great change, especially those involving changes in the type of social system, are always difficult for most of the population. Even the most successful reformers have never been able to create conditions under which each and every person's adaptation to the new situation could take place entirely on a voluntary basis. In the extreme case, orienting reforms to predominantly voluntary adaptation would simply nullify such reforms, making…
Social Adaptation in the Context of Freedom
Enthusiasm for a radical reorganization of society initiated from "above" involved a transition to a free and flourishing society the economic foundation of which was to be the market. Initially, the plan was to cut the number of administrative prohibitions and restrictions, to release people's energy and enterprise, to allow them to work and earn as much as they wished, to make their own choices and bear responsibility for them, and to learn and…
Social Adaptation of the Siberian Population to the Market
Processes of adaptation of diverse groups of the population to the market have a special significance under conditions of the economic reform. The social price of economic changes, their pace, and their effectiveness will depend ultimately on how these processes unfold. The following serve as measures of social adaptation: (1) an individual sense of social well-being, and (2) the degree to which the individual feels subjectively assimilated in ma…
Migratory Work Today As a Sociocultural Phenomenon
Every year inhabitants of the Transcaucasus, the Northern Caucasus, western Ukraine, and Moldova, mainly from villages and small cities, stream in groups into the European and eastern regions of Russia seeking seasonal earnings. They find sites for seasonal work for an average of 6.5 months without the assistance of state organs. The average length of the working day is 14.5 hours; only one-third have a single day off every week, but the majority…
